Leo laughed, but Gelo rolled his eyes and grabbed Bubba's elbow.
"Come on, worrywart," he said.
He pulled Bubba toward the front porch and had to put a lot of effort into it. Bubba was a big, big man.
"But they don't know how he is," I heard Bubba hiss.
"Then let them find out!" Gelo hissed back.
Leo followed them, shaking his head with a funny half-smile.
"Bye, Leo!" I called.
"Bye, Reau. Have fun."
My eyes lit up. I had been living with my brother for a week now and learned what 'fun' was.
I liked fun.
"All right, Reau." Arch handed me a helmet. "Put this on and I'll take you first."
"Hey!" Wayne frowned. "Why you first?"
"Because I'm older—"
"By seven weeks!"
"And more responsible."

"Fish killer!" I yelled and pointed at Arch, shocked to my core. How could you starve an animal to death?
"I wasfive," Arch growled.
As he glared at Wayne, his wolf gleamed in his pretty green eyes, and I caught my breath. Tears made my throat close up, and I rammed the helmet on my head before they saw I was crying.
Miss you, Tanner. Wish you would come back. Everything is scary without you here.

We ended up calling the king.
Well, little luna bunny did. She didn't even hesitate to disturb him, whereas I was freaking out.
While we waited for his arrival, she and Angelo traded looks, and I could see what they were thinking.
"Em, I know you don't want to hear it," she began, but I cut her off.
"Don't say it," I pleaded.
"You have to face the truth, orsacchiotto(teddy bear)," Angelo whispered in my ear, his arm around my waist. "The sooner you do, the sooner we can find ways to help Reau cope."
I nodded, my eyes stinging. I didn't want to accept it, but I had to.
Reau's wolf wasn't asleep.
