”Well, Good Friend, no thanks you, and I don’t need a ride.I have an Uber coming and he should be waiting outside about now.”I reached for my phone and peered at it.“Yes, that’s him or her.”I hurried away without stopping in the bathroom. Then I looked at my left and then right.I couldn’t find my way out, but the dude was gracious enough to tap me on the shoulder and point to the stairs, then stepped in front of me and led me down the stairs to the foyer.

“You know you should have waited.Cam needed time to think about what he’d said to you.He would have apologized.”There he went again. It was over and I knew it.

At the door I stopped and turned to him.“Well, he didn’t, and I’m not waiting around for something I don’t think he’s capable of doing. You should have heard the way he spoke to me.I thought we had a connection and we could find each other again.”I turned and began walking closer to the double glass doors at the entrance of his home, and the dude strode beside me.

“You know Cam recently lost his partner, and he was so caught up on you, and thinking he’d never see or meet you, and when he did, it must have been a shock to discover his fantasy had come true.He hasn’t invited anyone in this house in over a year since Brett died.”

“Why aren’t there pictures of Brett somewhere?”I slowed my walk by making a few steps because now I wanted to know about this man’s life.

“He couldn’t bear to look at them because it reminded him of his life with him, and how he may never have that kind of relationship again.Cam said that Brett never lied to him, and he never lied to Brett. They always told the truth to each other no matter how painful. But Brett withheld his sickness until the very last, and Cam said he could have spent that time with Brett and because of a lie, he lost all those moments he could have cherished.”

I didn’t know what to make of that, but all I knew was I had to get away from this man because I liked him too much, and because of one simple mistake, and one simple lie, I lost him.Maybe we weren’t meant to be together, I rationalized. If we had, then this wouldn’t have happened. We could have found common ground, but instead he couldn’t stand to see me and I didn’t want to be with someone who would let one stupid mistake break up a beautiful new relationship.

“By the way, my name is Jason.”Jason held out his hand and I looked into his eyes, and I shook his hand.

“Sabastian, but call me Sam.”He raised an eyebrow. We were on a first name basis, but I didn’t want him to know more, so I didn’t give him my surname.I didn’t want him Googling me.But what was the point? You could find anyone anytime in this age of technology, especially since I was what you call a celebrity of sorts. There are too many people who recognize me as it were whenever I’m out, and trying to Vlog for my channel.

After saying goodbye, I closed the door behind me.I spotted the car parked near the driveway, so I hopped into the cab, called Robby, and broke the unpleasant news to him that I would be driving my car to Dallas.“You don’t have to pick up my car, Robby.”There was a loud silence.

“Aw fuck. But I was depending on the extra cash.Your Mr.Money bags had promised to give me a nice amount of cash when I picked up your car and got it to Dallas. You can’t imagine what that pay would be just to drive the car two hundred and forty miles. That’s a fucking three-hour drive and I could take his jet back.”

“Robby, you’re just going to have to make up the money another way.”

“Couldn’t you have lasted a little longer with him?I know you, it wasyourfault. You always share too much on the first date.”Maybe Robby had been right because I shared my feelings with Cam.I went into this one-night stand as if he was the love of my life, and he was, because I did everything including lie to hold on to someone I’d just met.“Cam must have seen you as needy. What did you do?Suck his cock too soon.I advised against doing something like that on the first date.”

“You didn’t tell me not to do that.”And I wouldn’t have listened to him anyway.“Who are you, Robby, to give me advice? You’re my age who had his share of broken heartaches.”

“More than you, and that’s why I can advise you not to be so eager and needy. That is a sure turnoff for a man.He wants to know that you’re hard to get and easy to hold.”

And that’s why I didn’t stay for him to humiliate me further,I thought.

“You’re wrong this time, Robby.I didn’t share enough with him.”

“Oh, he’s one of those types. He wants to know your pedigree. He wanted to know who your mother and father were.Did you have any diseases?Wanted to see your communicable disease card way back in elementary school before he touched you?Did he ask if you had AIDs or take a test—” I had to stop Robby because clearly he had gone through this before, and it was a sore subject, and therefore he thought all men were alike.

“No, Robby, and fuck you.He didn’t ask for any of that, and you’ve been hanging around with the wrong men lately.”

“You, yeah. The broke ones, and you had a chance to bag one of the most eligible bachelors in this country, and he has money to burn, and you can’t even close the deal where your friend can benefit from your associates. What are friends for?”

“Now you sound like a song, Robby.I have a long ride ahead of me and I need to catch a wink before I get to my car.”

“Do you need company?”I wanted to give him a resoundingno, but I needed him to help me because I’d been up all night, and my body was sore and stiff for obvious reasons.

“Are you going to help me drive because I’m tired?”

“Too much sucking and fucking, I guess.”And Robby snickered.

“Fuck you, and yes I need someone, and can you get to my car soon because I’m on my way now.I’m riding in an Uber, but if you’re not there when I arrive, I’m going to wait ten minutes and I’m leaving even if I have to sleep at a roadside park for a bit.”

“I’m standing in front of the hotel, now, and I’m looking at your Toyota.”

“I thought you had a date.”

“I did, but that’s a long story, and we have a long drive.”
