She placed her hand over his heart. “I said, I love you. I love everything you are. My best friend. My favorite roommate. My dirty-talking beast of a lover.”
“Are you sure?” For an instant he was terrified she was stringing him along, paying him back for all his half-truths and omissions.
She didn’t answer him, pushing her chair back and standing up instead.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m not that hungry anymore. I think I want to take a nap. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure Bailey is in my bed.”
She took his hand and he found himself walking with her toward the house. “You look like you need to lie down, too. You’re always taking care of me. I think it’s time I took care of you for a while.”
If he was dreaming, he never wanted to wake up. “I am a little stiff.”
Not a lie.
She pursed her lips and made a cooing sound, pulling him through the kitchen and down the hall to his bedroom. “Oh, poor Cookie. Let me kiss it and make it better. Or better yet, I could get excited and, you know, jiggle for you.”
“I had a fantasy that started just like this.”
She laughed and dragged him into the bedroom, shutting the door behind them. “If you say Anna Paquin was in it, I’m leaving.”
He wrapped his arms around her and fell back with her onto the bed. “Only you, Dani. It’s always been you.”
He kissed her, so lost in her that he almost didn’t hear the coyote’s howl in the distance.
He lifted head. “Dani, do you think Stax—”
“Liam.” She shook her head, a knowing gleam in her dark blue eyes. “Stax has eternity, apparently. He can wait. I can’t.”
Liam let her tug his head down, more than happy to oblige her for the rest of his life.
