Keira scowled at him.“You make it sound like I’m the mean one here.”

Conner snorted.“Oh, I wouldn’t say mean, just scary as hell, and I hope I never piss you off.”

Keira chuckled and shook her head.

Daniel kissed the side of her head and held her tighter as her shaking became more pronounced.“You ready to go home yet?”

Keira looked at Layla.“I’m going to head out, if that’s okay? But I’ll be in tomorrow.”

Layla rolled her eyes.“Like I’m going to tell you no.Go home and rest.Logan’s going to stay here until we close.”

“Blane and I will be over later to take your statement, Keira. We’ll get Layla’s while we’re here.”

Keira nodded as Daniel led her out the back door.Daniel belted her into his car, and they started to drive to his house—which was actually hers now, too.

Her mind kept spinning, but her body lost momentum, and she was asleep within five minutes.

Chapter Forty-Five

Conner came in thefront door and headed into the living room where Keira, Daniel, Layla, and Logan sat.He stopped at the doorway and stuck his nose in the air and sniffed.“What’s that awesome smell?”

Keira looked up, “It’s spaghetti.”

“I thought we just had Italian the other night?”

“Well, Mister,” Layla said as she sat up straight.“I made dinner tonight, and if you don’t like it, you can go to McDonald’s down the street.”

Conner held his hands up.“No, it’s great.I’ll eat whatever you put in front of me.”

Daniel snorted from the sofa.“And who invited you?”

Keira jabbed her elbow into his stomach.“Don’t be mean to Conner. He’s welcome anytime.”

Blane hurried through the door.“What did I miss?”he asked as he looked around the room at the different facial expressions.

Conner moved to a chair facing the sofa and sat.“We were just talking about dinner.”
