“Yep sure do.” The door opening catches my attention and I look up to see Lee. He has a red mark on his face like someone has punched him and I notice his knuckles are skinned up. Is this why he is late?
“What happened?” I gesture toward his hand he looks down at it and shrugs.
“Nothing to talk about.” He sounds annoyed. “What’s going on?” nodding toward Rick and I squatting down in front of the unassembled grill.
“Not much man just trying to put this together and probably taking it apart more in the process. I'm not much of a handyman.” Rick tells him getting up off the ground. Lee comes over to me and holds his uninjured hand out. I take it and he pulls me to my feet fast. Wrapping his arms around me and snaking his hand into my hair to his favorite spot he plants one big wet kiss on my mouth that takes my breath away. That was unexpected, and totally marking his territory. Why didn't he just come in and just piss on me? That would have gotten his point across just as easy.
“Sorry I'm late babe, go get me a beer please and I will fix this shit okay?” All I can do is nod my head and go inside to the fridge to grab him a beer. I also grab one for Rick, noting that Cris and Dez aren't inside anymore. That’s weird, I quickly go peek in her room but the door is open and she isn't in there. I hope she didn't chase the poor guy off.
When I get back outside Lee has the grill already set up and lit.
“Linnie you better marry this man he’s handy.” This makes me flinch and I think Lee catches it but plays it off like he didn't.
“Just a grill.” He deadpans. “Where’s the meat? I may not know my way around the kitchen but I can man a grill.” He tells me with a wink. The Awkward moment gone, thank you universe.
“Got it here man.” Dez appears from inside with the plate of raw burgers all seasoned up and ready to be seared. Cristal trails behind the tattooed god with a slight blush to her face. What the hell? Did my innocent little best friend run off and get some nookie? Shit I will need some details letter. Demand them in fact.
“Thanks, man. Lee.” Lee extends the opposite hand grabbing the burgers and shakes Dez’s hand.
“Dez.”
“Shane isn't here she had to run off and help her mom with some predicament or another. Happens a lot.” I shrug.
“too bad I was looking forward to meeting her. Linn talks about you two all of the time sounds like you have some fun together.” He says to Cristal and she pinks right up.
“That blush looks good on you butterfly but damn I'm getting a little jealous it’s not directed at me.” I vaguely hear Dez lean over and whisper into her ear from behind. I do believe she is about to burst.
“Cris, come with me to get the rest of the food, we can set up the table. I'm sure it won't be long before the burgers are done.” I turn to Lee. “Right?” he just nods to me and we take off inside.
“What the hell Cris? You need to stick your head in the freezer or something? You look like you are about to burst into flames.”
“Oh my god that man! Why the hell did you invite him you little bitch? Some kind of warning would have been nice.” Her language catches me off guard but I let her little outburst roll on past and go right for the questions.
“So where did you two take off to?” And there goes more red.
“In the bathroom.” She mumbles so low I barely even hear her.
“What the hell were you doing in there?”
“He wanted to check out the tattoo.”
“Oh, you mean the tattoo that you got weeks ago and still haven't shown me or Shane? That tattoo?” I say to her.
“Yes one in the same, and it’s just not in a spot that I would flash around you know? And it’s also kind of personal.” Ouch.
“Personal? You know we don't have secrets, what could you possibly have gotten permanently inked on you that me and Shane…” I stop because it dawns on me where and what she could possibly have gotten tattooed on her.
“Oh, I see. Sorry sweetie I didn't think of that, in time okay?” I feel like an asshole now. She nods her head at me with a slight mist in her eyes. Hate seeing this girl cry.
“So how about we stuff our faces with some of Shane’s food. I’m starving.”
“Me too.” She tells me opening the fridge to grab the potato salad. We walk out the door to find the guys in a heavy debate about who would win in a fight between Batman and Superman. Men.
“Doesn't matter Marvel is better,” I state, immediately winning the debate. Well from my point of view anyway.
“Oh damn, you just got sexier Screamer,” Lee says and pulls me to his side gripping my hip hard burying his face into my neck kissing me softly.
“You look damn sexy in that dress by the way, you wearing any panties under there baby?” Oh damn.
