“I figured it was something like that.” Curling my good arm around my pillow, I smiled at him while carefully placing my injured hand on the mattress between us.

I didn’t think that I’d be able to sleep with Jack only inches away, but my tiredness quickly overcame my awkwardness at this new experience, and I drifted off. I conked out so hard that I didn’t even realize that I invaded his side of the bed, cuddling into his muscular chest as he wrapped his arms around me while I slept like a baby.

JACK

Spending the night with Iris in my arms was an experience that I would happily do every damn day. Even with the power going out, although we barely felt the impact since the inn’s generators kicked in as expected.

With the slopes closed and no skiers on the mountain this morning, I didn’t have to rush out of bed. Raven had been joking about me being on Santa’s nice list, but I couldn’t imagine anything better than getting this time with Iris. She was every one of my Christmas wishes wrapped in a sexy package.

And it only got better when she woke up and burrowed closer to me, her hand stroking down my side as she mumbled, “Morning.”

“You sleep good, angel?”

“Mm hmm,” she hummed, her cheek brushing against my chest when she nodded.

“Merry Christmas Eve.”

She leaned her head back to smile up at me. “Oh, my gosh! I can’t believe I forgot it’s Christmas Eve. Do you think we could bake some cookies today? There’s premade dough in the fridge and all sorts of decorating supplies. I thought my mom hadgone overboard with everything she ordered, but now that we’re stranded in our own little snowy bubble and can’t go outside, I’m extremely grateful for her tendency to be extra while we’re on vacation.”

I patted my stomach. “I appreciated the variety of supplies last night.”

“And I’m sure they’ll come in handy this morning, too.” She trapped her bottom lip between her teeth. “Maybe we could make pancakes or French toast for breakfast?”

I tugged her lip free, stroking my thumb over the spot she’d bitten. “Two of my favorites, but I think I need a little something before I get out of bed.”

“Like what?” she asked, feminine curiosity gleaming in her dark orbs.

I slowly lowered my head, giving her the chance to understand what was about to happen before I claimed her mouth in a deep kiss. Instead of objecting, she twined her arms around my neck and pressed closer, her lips parting when my tongue swept between them.

Kissing Iris was more thrilling than getting first tracks on fresh powder. She was addicting, so much so I forgot all about her being injured until she winced against my mouth.

“Shit,” I muttered, trying to scoot back, but she pulled me closer with her good hand, shaking her head.

“No, it’s okay. I just bent my wrist the wrong way, but it’s fine. Really.”

“I don’t want to hurt you, angel.” I slid my hand to her cheek and rubbed my thumb over her jawline.

“I don’t think you ever could.”

I wanted to keep kissing her. To feel every part of her. But I knew at our current angle, it definitely wouldn’t help her wrist or swelling.

I wouldn’t ever do anything to betray the trust shining from her pretty brown eyes, but then I had another idea.

“Lie back, and put your arms up on the headboard,” I commanded, sitting up and tugging the covers back.

“Um, why?” she asked, blinking up at me. Even in the pale, morning light of the room, I could still see the flecks of gold in her dark brown orbs, adding depth to the color.

I smiled, straddling her hips as she took a sharp intake of breath. “You need to keep your wrist elevated. You don’t want any swelling.”

“Oh, right,” she said, her voice trailing.

“But don’t worry, I’ll help distract you from the pain,” I murmured, leaning down and kissing the bare skin where her shirt rose, showing off her stomach.

“Is that so?” she quipped, a thread of humor in her voice.

Keeping my gaze on hers, I slowly pulled her pajama pants down, trailing my kisses along her thighs until I tugged her panties to her ankles too. When I didn’t see any sign of hesitation, I glanced down at her bare pussy, which was already wet and waiting. But I didn’t go right for it. Slowly I kissed each thigh, keeping our eyes locked and reveling in how she shivered under my touch.
