“Attorney Banks.”
There was silence and heavy breathing on the other line.
“Hello? Are you okay?”
A deep voice came on. “Lillith. You’ve been playing on the dark side again. I know where you are right now. I know what you did last night. You need to leave.”
“Who the fuck is this?”
The deep voice laughed, and it sent a horror movie like chills down my spine.
“I can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Choose wisely, Lillith Navarro.”
They hung up, and I threw my phone across the room. I ran toward the bathroom and puked up dinner.
They knew. They knew my name…
Wiping my mouth, I stood and washed it out before heading to Moose’s bedroom. I didn’t even bother knocking and threw open the door.
I could feel the tears streaming down my face as he looked up at me. Moose immediately ran and gathered me into his arms.
“Lily, what’s wrong?”
He guided me to his bed and held my face in his firm hands as I tried to calm myself down.
“Lily, baby. You gotta talk to me.”
“They know…”
His eyebrows furrowed. “They know what? Who?”
“They called me. They knew my name, where I am right now. They know what we did last night.”
Another cry bubbled out of me, and I collapsed into Moose’s arms. He held me until I pushed back.
“I can’t stay here, Moose. I can’t put you and your kids at risk. I have to go…”
“No. You are not leaving. We’re gonna sleep on this and tackle it in the morning. We’ll tell Striker what’s going on. Okay, princess?”
I nodded as he laid me down in bed.
“Gimmie your phone.”
“It’s in my room. I threw it.”
Moose nodded and walked down the hall, coming back with my phone in his hand.
“I’ll see what I can get from it. We’ll get you a new number and make sure everybody has it. We won’t turn this one off, though. I’ll be keeping it with me.”
Moose climbed into bed with me and wrapped his arms around me.
“I’m so scared, Moose.”
“I’ve got you, Lily. I promise.”
