I got up from the chair and walked outside with my cup of coffee. Moose and Javier both looked up at me as I sat down on the outdoor couch.

“Breakfast is ready!”

The kids ran inside with Javier while Moose slowly walked toward me, a glint in his eyes.

“Those shorts look good on you, princess.”

I blushed and looked down at my cutoff denim shorts and cropped shirt. Tia Rosa had kept my old clothes right in the closet.

“Maybe I should bring them home then.”

Moose winked and leaned down to kiss me. “That’s the best fucking plan you’ve come up with.”

The kids and Javier came running back out, plates in hand, and made their way to the picnic table. Moose and I laughed as we watched them try not to drop anything.

Javier looked up and smiled, then walked over to us.

“Yo, homie. Come eat before we talk business. I’m gonna be your first fucking customer for some new security shit. Plus, plane food is shit.”

Moose laughed and went inside to grab some food. Javier sat next to me and bumped my leg with his.

“How you doing, Lil?”

I shrugged. “Ready to go home. But I’ve missed this home. So it’s bittersweet.”

“You can always come back.”

I laughed. “No. Moose and the kids are my life now. I can’t leave them.”

“They’re good fucking people. He treats you right?”

“He does. He really does.”

Javier threw his arm around me. “Good. I’m happy for you, baby girl. Despite all the shit we went through, I’m always here for you. I’ve never stopped loving you.”

I looked up at him and smiled. “I know, J. I feel the same way.”

We both pushed off the couch and walked inside as the kids brought their empty plates inside. Moose was sitting at the breakfast bar chatting with Javier’s mom.

I walked over and sat next to him, throwing my arms around him.

“We gotta get going or we’ll miss our flight home.”

Nova and Maddox headed into their bedrooms to pack the few things Javier had picked up for them.

Moose's and I’s bags were already packed by the door. Tia Rosa was packing a few snacks for us.

We all said our goodbyes as we piled into the SUV. Tia was already crying, but we had exchanged numbers and she made me promise to call her every day.

“Bye, baby! Have a safe trip home!”

We waved out the windows as Javier’s guy drove us toward the airport. When we arrived, Javier got out and helped us get our few bags out of the SUV.

He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head.

“I’ll miss you Lil. If he ever hurts you... just let me know. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

I smiled up at him. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t be a stranger, J. I can’t tell you enough how grateful I am for all the help.”
