“Is that what you want? I can be quiet, although I love to make noise.”

I give an incredulous laugh. “You’re relentless, aren’t you.”

He gets up on all fours. “When it comes to my prey, yes.”

I lift myself, ready to jump to my feet. “Is that what I am to you, prey?” I crawl backward.

“You look like it right now.” The pheromones drip from his being. The smell of him envelopes me.

We both freeze, waiting for each other’s next movement. The air is thick with the sexual tension between us. All this flirting has made me forget everything, and I want it to stay that way for a little while longer. Scratch that; I want it to gopastthat. I want to see just how far Cameron will take this predator and prey game.

I jump to my feet, rushing out of the cave and toward the spring, adrenaline ridding my body of all its aches and pains.

He’s right behind me, and I fight myself from turning back to see what forms he’s taken to chase me. His hot breath tickles my neck, but just before he reaches me, I jump into the water, and he follows me in. I swim away, but it’s useless; his arms wrap around me, turning me to him and pulling me up to the surface.

I gulp in air, my screams and laughter bursting from me. I push at him, using all my might to swim away, even as I revel in the feeling of his muscles constricting around me.

“Let me go!” I yell, still smiling and giggling like a schoolgirl.

“No,” he says as he grabs my legs, wrapping them around his waist.

My skin prickles as his erection presses against my core, and I pick up my gaze, meeting his ravenous stare. The game is over. My heart hammers out of my chest, and my lips part—the air suddenly too heavy for my lungs.

Cameron raises his hand, tucking a loose, wet hair behind my ear. My eyes close, and I lean into him.

“You asked what you are to me.”

His words stop my journey to his lips, and my eyes burst open. “What?” I whisper.

“You’re my mate.”

The clouds around this moment disappear, and I scrunch my face in confusion. “What?”

“That’s what you are to me. You’re my everything. You’re my mate. Do you know what that means?”

I know what that means. I know what it means more than I know anything, and from what my body is screaming at me, the word just made the mess of my life a hell of a lot messier.

Oh fuck.

Never Enough

Ipush him away. “Stop.”

Hurt floods his eyes as he reaches for me, but I swim around him, making my way to shore.

“Red, I can’t help it.”

“I don’t want to hear it. I can’t deal with this right now.” It’s all too much. I just found out I have werewolf powers, my childhood best friend and brief lover is a psychopath, and my parents were murdered by a group of people I share ancestry with. My life is in danger. Now isn’t the time to fling myself into a lifelong romance. I’m not sure of the specifics of what he claims between us, but it’s like some ancient and powerful part of me beats in my chest, telling me everything I need to know. It’s too much—too much for a girl like me who plans to return to New York if I ever make it out of here alive. Seconds ago, a part of me hoped I could be more to him than just a fling, but I can tellthisis much more than anything I had in mind.

He grabs my arm, twisting me toward him. “Do you even understand what I’m saying to you?” His fingers tighten around my forearms, and his mouth hardens into a line. Fire and fury blaze behind his eyes.

I match his expression, furious that he could possibly be angry with me right now. “No, and I don’t want to know!”

He pulls me closer to him, staring me down and pressing me against his chest. “Why don’t you want to know?”

“I just…” I look away from him, tears clouding my vision.
