I scoot my back against his bare chest, rubbing my butt against his boxers in a last ditch attempt to seduce him.

“Jade,” he scolds.

“What? I’m just getting comfortable.”

“Go to sleep.” He gives me a quick kiss goodnight.

Despite Garret naggingme to take it easy, I spend all of Sunday doing homework, emailing Friday’s assignments to my professors, and working on the new stuff that was assigned.

Garret stays with me in my room, asking me silly questions every hour to make sure I’m not having memory loss or confusion. Some of the questions are so funny I consider writing them down.

Harper stops by around noon to see how I’m doing. She’s smiling like crazy seeing Garret and me back together again. I don’t tell her about my new car because I’m not quite sure how to explain it to her, or anyone else. I can’t tell people the real reason why I got it. So do I just say that my boyfriend’s dad gave me a super expensive car? Will they believe that? Mr. Kensington’s a billionaire so maybe nobody would think it’s odd. But just in case people question it I’ll have to come up with a story. But I can do that later. I don’t need to tell anyone about the car until I actually have it at school.

After dinner, someone knocks on my door and Garret answers. I hear Carson’s voice from the hall.

“Hey, I was just stopping by to see how Jade’s doing and to talk about our paper.”

“I read the paper,” I say as he walks in. “It looks really good. I didn’t have any changes. Sorry I couldn’t help more, but I’ll do the next one.”

“I didn’t mind writing it. My weekend was pretty open.”

“Didn’t you go out with Kerry?”

“We broke up.” He doesn’t seem that upset about it.

“Oh. Sorry.”

“It’s okay. It just wasn’t working.” Carson looks at Garret like he’s annoyed that he’s there, then focuses back on me. “So you tripped while you were running?”

“Yeah. I need to be more careful on the trails. With all the downed tree branches and the leaves covering them, it’s easy to trip.”

“You really shouldn’t run by yourself. Call me next time and I’ll go with you.”

“I’ll go with her,” Garret says.

“Jade said you didn’t like to run.”

Garret glares at him. “I’lllearnto like it.”

“Well, I’ll see you at class tomorrow, Jade. If you want me to walk with you, just call.”

“I’ll be okay. But thanks.”

When he leaves, I can see that Garret’s doing all he can not to say anything.

“So I know what you’re thinking,” I say. “Carson’s acting too protective of me again. And maybe flirting a little.”

“A little? He basically asked you out right in front of me.”

“I’ll tell him to back off. I’ve told him before. He’s just persistent.”

“Tell him to be persistent with someone else.”

“You want to go outside quick? I could use some practice with the crutches. Otherwise it will take me two hours to get to class.”

“Sure.” He helps me get my coat on, then puts on his.
