“He actually enjoys it,” I smirked, not looking at her.
I pulled up out the front of the store, and waited for her to get out. But she didn’t, she hesitated like she wanted to say something, but couldn’t think of what it was.
I tapped my finger against the steering wheel, waiting for her to do or say anything.
After a while, she let out a huff and got out of the car, slamming the door behind her. I pulled back out into the street, and I could see her watching me from the sidewalk in the rear view mirror. It took a lot of self control to not purposely crash her car, just for being a bitch.
Look, I was all for girl power, and women supporting women - but I could not stand girls like her.
The ones who got their satisfaction and confidence only from putting down other women, the ones who saw other girls as nothing but competition. Something about this woman in particular just rubbed me the wrong way from the moment I met her.
The judgmental stares she gave all of my friends, including Rome - who she regularly disrespected by constantly crossing boundaries with her husband.
It also made me mad on behalf of Toni, and the position it put him in.
Though he tried to be respectful of the fact that she was part of The Family, he had still put his foot down on multiple occasions.
Yet she ignored his wishes to be left alone.
I was near certain that it would take a physical attack from Rome in order for her to listen.
Maybe if our plan worked, and Sammy managed to win her over - it would make Rome and Toni’s lives easier as well.
I drove back to the shop, and Sammy smirked and shook his head as I flicked the car around, doing a large spin in the tiny car on the dirt patch of the back area.
“You’re a fucking idiot,” he laughed as I got out of the car, throwing the keys at him.
“I think our plan is working though, I could physically feel how much she wanted to slap me,” I shrugged.
Sammy shook his head and looked at his boots as he laughed.
“Hope she’s worth it, bud,” I said, slapping him on the shoulder as I went back inside the workshop. He followed me silently into the office and watched from the doorway as I opened my laptop.
“So,” he sighed, “any updates on the trackers we got in place last night?”
I nodded, “yep. They’re all live.”
“Awesome,” he said, lingering in the doorway, “so…”
“What, Sam?” I sighed, “you really gotta learn to just say what you wanna say.”
A small smile tugged at the side of his lips, but his eyes still looked sad.
I could tell he was probably still thinking about the lecture he got from Toni, and knew how hard it must’ve been to be in his position.
“We should get King’s car tonight,” he said slowly. “If that’s okay?”
“Sounds great,” I nodded once, turning back to my computer screen.
I could feel the nerves building in my chest.
Last time, we nearly got caught.
And now, they would know that something was up, that something was happening. I knew that they would be on high alert now, and only make our job harder. But I also knew that if we didn’t get King’s car - it was all for nothing.
He was the one, the one that would make or break our little operation.
It needed to be done. So I swallowed the anxiety and watched the clock tick by until we would make our most dangerous play yet.
