“Did you know that she was at the wedding?”
“She was what?” Rome snapped at Toni.
“She was at the wedding, Sam just told me. Liv dragged her out before anyone saw her.”
Rome pursed her lips and frowned again, “I wonder why she didn’t tell me.”
Toni just shrugged, and so did I. But we both knew why Livie had kept it from her - to protect her.
To keep the wedding a special day, and not one damaged by drama.
She sighed, rubbing her temples as she shook her head.
“I thought that shooting the bitch would be enough warning to stay away,” she said, standing and reaching for a book on her shelf. She took it down and opened it up, revealing that the pages were hollowed out and there was a gun inside. She pulled it out, and tucked it into her waistband.
“I guess not.”

Chapter 11
Livie
Ihadn’t even opened the text message from Sierra.
I went straight to bed after Sam dropped me home, after triple checking the locks on my door. Something about the timing of Sierra’s message was unnerving.
Was she watching us?
Was she following me?
I had received many messages from Sierra over the past weeks, but they were all innocent seeming enough. She just wanted forgiveness.
I half felt bad for her.
She had no one now, she had betrayed every friend that she had all at once and was left with nothing. She was obviously not welcome back at Lilith’s either, so she was also without a job. I don’t know why I still worried about her after what she did.
We were friends for so long, and the knife in the back from her had stung worse than any breakup. Losing a friend was different. It had shattered my heart in a way I had never experienced. When I woke up, the first thing I did was roll over and stare at the text message.
“Does Sam know about your son?”
The fact that she brought it up made me realise just how desperate she was for my attention. How desperate she was to hurt me.
For the first time, I even considered replying.
There was another text that I hadn’t even noticed, because I was so distracted by Sierra’s.
It was from Rome.
“Come and see me. ASAP.”
I sighed, kicking my legs over the side of my bed, dragging my feet to the bathroom to shower and get dressed. I packed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder and locked my door behind me. Checking the halls, and the elevator before I got inside, I quickly made my way to the parking garage. My eyes scanned the almost empty lot before I rushed to my car.
If she was trying to scare me, it had worked.
I hated that it had worked.
I drove to Lilith’s, distracted, and reached out and kept my hand on my backpack on the front seat. Sam had asked why I carried it with me everywhere, and he wasn’t the only one who had wondered that.
