“I probably got one sigh left in me and I’ll try my best to hold it in on the strength of your father, but I will kill you, Liam. And then I’ll kill your brother to save him the pain and avoid the revenge. Let’s not force my hand here.”
He nodded but I could see the struggle to comply.
“She mentioned killing the last person on her list before coming back,” he finally confessed. “And now I’m thinking that last person might be her grandfather. Maybe she realized she’ll never catch who pulled the trigger and only one person could make that possible.”
She’ll never get to me but once she finds out you made a deal with her father’s killer, who knows what might happen.
Demetrius’s parting words echoed in my mind.
“He’s going to leak it to her,” I said with a light chuckle. “In the end, we clean up his mess on all sides.”
Every threat to my wife had to die no matter what, and I was certain Mr. Everwood had banked on exactly that when making the statement. All the enemies he collected from Miami to Manhattan were mine now, including the Albanians who he fucked over for his own agenda.
This should’ve been my da’s problem and I couldn’t help laugh at the fucking irony.

Picking you up in three hours. Leave your phone and anything that can track you behind.
It wasthree in the morning when Violet’s text came through.
For so many reasons, I couldn’t sleep.
“What’s wrong, beautiful goddess?”
Sean took the phone from my hand and set it on the coffee table. I caught a glimpse of his bare chest and back through the living room window before he engulfed me in his arms.
“I’m sorry, little deer,” I murmured, leaning my head back. “Did I wake you?”
His sleepy eyes met mine.
“You not being in bed is what woke me. Tell me what’s wrong then help me go back to sleep.”
I sighed.
“I’m conflicted about Esi.”
And Blake for that matter but my restlessness wasn’t about his sudden shift in behavior.
Part of me felt…somethingfor not pushing back when making a deal with Esi’s father’s killer. But at the same time, deep down I didn’t really feel anything at all about it.
Maybe because I knew if it’d been her in my shoes, she would’ve done the same.
Or maybe my loyalty to her and the Constanzo’s was never anything but a stepping stone for where I am now.
Despite my conflicting feelings, business was business and the real problem was Augusto, not Demetrius, me or Sean. His transgressions had been laid out bare for us and he deserved to die.
For what he did to Sean’s grandmother.
To his son.
What he was still doing if Esmeralda hadn’t killed him yet, but I wasn’t sure Liam understood what she meant.
Esi was known for talking in code.
“I don’t think you are,” Sean said through a yawn as he pulled back and forced me to face him. “Think about every move you’ve made up until this point. You’ve never second guessed any of it. So, tell me, do you think she’s someone worth fighting for?”
