"Hey," I said back, closing the distance and stopping in front of him. "That was nice what you did back there.Do you know that kid?"
He shrugged. "No. The guys who were picking on him were twice his size. Thought maybe they'd want to try me instead."
"And how'd that turn out?"
"You saw them running."
"I did."
Bo's lips pressed into a thin line. "They won't mess with him again," he said.
I swallowed the huge lump that rose in my throat.
Goodness.
Who knew confidence could be so freaking attractive?
"Practicing for your future as the world's #1 bodyguard?" I asked.
"Nah," he said, "just a normal day."
"You got your black belt when you were 10, right?"
Bo's eyes shot to mine. "How'd you know that?"
I shrugged. "Because I pay attention—and I stillremember the day your family threw that party. Yourdad put that bumper sticker onhis car.My son's an honor student and a black belt.Though I like the one on your mom's better,My son kicks ass—literallywith the cute little ninja."
Bo groaned, but my smile widened.
"They love you.It's sweet."
"Yeah, if sweet is code for embarrassing," Bo mumbled.
"Itissweet, like what you did for that kid just now," I repeated.
He shook his head.
"Good job, Flower Boy," I said, giving his shoulder a friendly pat.
He stared at my hand, and I dropped it, forcing a laugh.
"Sorry."
"For what?" he asked.
"Touching you," I said.
"No apology necessary." Bo coughed thenlifted a brow. "I'm your boyfriend now. Remember?"
"How could I forget?" I muttered.
The dreams that'd kept me up last night were about us, our fake relationship, and every single one of them ended badly. There were some swoony bits in between sure. But the ending… I brought a hand to my temple and closed my eyes.
"You okay?" Bo asked.
"Yeah," I said, eyes still squeezed shut, "I'm just not feeling well all of a sudden."
In the next instant, there was a warm touch to my forehead.
