"Really?"

I elbowed her side. "You know how I hate the dark night of the soul moment in a book."

Scarlett threw her arms around me, squeezing in a death grip of a hug.

"I love you," she said. "You know that, right?"

"Love you too," I gasped. "Now, don't kill me. I've got a charity event to run."

With a laugh, she sat back and stared at the material in my hands. "This dress really is beautiful."

I nodded. "It better be. Ipricked my finger like a thousand times."

"Wish I had one," she said wistfully. "The only nice dress I have is the one I wore to homecoming two years ago. Too small and definitely inappropriate for the time period."

"Scar, please," I said, reaching back and tugging her dress out with a flourish. "You didn't think I'd make one for myself and not you, did you?"

Her eyes widened as she held up the light blue material. "Again, I thought you were mad," she said.

"I was for about two seconds, but then I got over it."

"Ahhh"—she pulled me in for another hug then stood, the dress in hand—"you're the best."

I shrugged. "I think we alreadyknew that."

"Also, Bo's going to love you in that dress," she added.

"Still pulling for him, huh?"

"I'm pulling foryou. I always have been."

I smiled at that. "Thanks, sis."

"You are going to tell him, right?"

"Tell him what?" As she gave me a look, I sighed. "I was planning to confess to him tonight, if he'll hear me out."

"He will," she said. "Trust me, Bofeels the same way you do, maybe even more so."

"I hope that's true," I murmured.

"No worries, sis," she said. "Love always wins in the end."

She left, closing my door with a click, and I shook my head.

"Yeah, in books," I muttered.

There was another light knock, and then Scarlett stuck her head back inside.

"Ooh, also, Dad wants to talk with us downstairs," she said then added, "Don't forget your violin."

Once I was dressed and ready, I went downstairs to find my father. He was seated at thekitchen table, drinking a mug of coffee, and looked up when I entered.

"Charlotte," he said, "you look beautiful."

"Thanks, Dad," I said.

"Where'd you get that dress?"
