"Good." Hayden licked his bottom lip, and my eyes followed the movement. "Close your eyes, Maggie."
I did as he said.
The next thing I felt were his lips pressing against mine. They were soft like a butterfly's wings, there one minute, gone the next. But Hayden came in again and again for more. He kissed one side of my mouth and then the other. Then he landed another longer kiss to the center of my lips. It felt amazing. When Hayden captured my lower lip and sucked on it, I thought I might pass out.
I'd never been kissed like this before.
It was like he was worshiping every part of my mouth.
Sean's kisses had never been like this. He'd always jumped right to it, immediately shoving his tongue in my mouth before I'd had a chance to feel anything.
But with Hayden, I felt plenty.
When he sucked on my lip again, coaxing me to play, I kissed him back. Hayden groaned in approval, and I felt the sound down to my bones. His hands went to tangle in my hair as mine traveled up his chest, coming to rest against his shoulders. The kiss grew deeper. I swept my tongue against his, and he groaned again. He tugged on my bottom lip with his teeth, making me gasp, and I knew nothing but this.
I could've kept kissing him forever.
I probably would have.
I even thought I saw fireworks burst behind my eyelids for a moment.
There was a symphony in my ears.
It was composed of Hayden and my breathing and…the swish of metal?
"Well, this is a surprise," a voice said. "You kids okay in there?"
Hayden and I froze then slowly broke apart. Looking to the elevator's doors, I squinted and saw that they were slightly open. An older man peered through the crack, shining a flashlight on the two of us. Ah, I thought, so that must've been the fireworks.
"Hello? I said are you alright?" he repeated.
"Yeah," Hayden said in a hoarse voice, "we're good."
The man lowered the flashlight, and I could now see he wore a security guard uniform. Finally, our rescue had come.
My first thought was ridiculous.
Truly absurd.
But there was a part of me that wanted to ask: Can you please come back later?
Geez, the touch of Hayden's lips had turned my mind to mush. The weird thing was…I didn't mind.
"No offense," the guard said, "but couldn't you have chosen a better place to make out? A car's always good."
I blushed to the tips of my toes while Hayden threw him a grin.
"Maybe next time," he said.
"Oh my God, Magnolia! Are you in there, baby? Are you okay?"
Hearing Mom's voice was like a balmon a winter's night. I still couldn't see her. She must've been somewhere behind the security guard. But I would know that sound anywhere.
"I'm fine, Mom," I called back.
"Oh thank goodness," she said.
"The elevator broke or something, and we got stuck."
