I nodded and was about to add to the conversation when I noticed a sign for Devil Dave’s Chicken on a Pitchfork. My jaw dropped. “No way! Dave has a chicken place in town?”

Drest laughed. “You didn’t know?”

I shook my head. “No. I don’t normally cut through town this way. I usually take one of the back ways that put me closer to Mill Hollow. That way, I avoid all the stops.”

He flashed me a sexy smile. “You’re more impatient than I remember.”

“Really? I seem to recall me being pretty impatient in the wine cellar when I was trying to get your clothes off you,” I returned.

Drest smiled. “Hey, any time you want my clothes off, just say the word.”

I grinned and pointed to the street ahead. “Take a left there and it will dead-end into my street.”

He nodded and did as I said. Within a short period of time, we were pulling up outside of the home I’d bought.

Drest parkedthe Falcon on the strip of grass that should have been a gravel driveway, but nature had reclaimed it years ago. He looked up at the large, old gothic home. His gaze slid to me, and he started to laugh. “Only you would buy the most haunted-looking place in town.”

“This?” I asked before waving a hand dismissively. “It’s like tenth from the top of the most haunted-looking ones in Grimm Cove. This town is wacky.”

“So I’m noticing,” he said as he got out of the car. He came around to my side of the vehicle and helped me out. “I’ll grab my bag.”

I nodded, grabbed the gift bag of goodies, and went for the porch, noticing just how dark it was on the property. My first attempt at getting my front door open didn’t work. Neither did my second or third. With a grunt, I looked at Drest as he came up the steps of the porch. “The door is stuck. Again.”

He did his best to hide his laugh. “I’m starting to see why Demi pushed for me to take you to the apartment above Stratton’s garage.”

“Hey, this house may not look like much, but it called to me when I was looking for a project,” I said. “I wanted something to fill my free time. Something that wouldn’t leave me sitting alone in my room, thinking of you and in tears.”

He dropped his bag on the porch and it made a loud metal-banging-on-metal sound, making me wonder if the man packed steel pipes in it. He grabbed me and yanked me against him, his lips crashing down on mine.

The gift bag fell to the floor as I found myself yanking at his clothing just as eagerly as I’d done in the wine cellar all those years ago. We fumbled with each other’s clothing as Drest pushed the door open with one hand and what looked to be very little in the way of effort. By the time we were through the threshold, his shirt was off, and my pants and shirt were on the floor.

Drest broke our kiss and spun around, grabbing the gift bag and then coming back in. He pushed the door shut behind him and eyed me hungerly. “Rach, the things I’m about to do to you are illegal in a number of places.”

I barked with laughter and reached for the bag, grabbed the lubricant before taking off at a good run toward the staircase.

Drest was hot on my heels, hurrying up the stairs behind me.

I ran to the master bedroom, and he followed. The second I was inside the room, he grabbed me, spun me around, and lifted me in his arms, his lips finding mine. My legs went around his waist.

We kissed and ate at one another’s mouths. I fumbled around with the lubricant, finally getting the lid and seal off it just as Drest reached down and freed himself from his jeans. I squirted lubricant on my fingers and reached between us, coating the top of his erection.

He growled into my mouth as I lined him up with my center. He then speared me roughly, claiming my body fully, leaving me crying out in his mouth as pleasure slammed through me.

I moved on him, and he caught my hips, holding me there. “Drest?”

“If you move, this ends,” he warned. “It’s been thirty-six years since I…”

I smiled against his mouth. “Same.”

“Really?” he asked, his eyes lighting with joy.

I nodded.

“I love you, Rachael Bright.”
