I nodded, still thinking about what all this fucking meant.

 I fucked up.

I took out the top officers of the Devil Sinners and disbanded the club, but I didn’t go after every single one of them.

I let them go, and now they were here and messing with what was mine.

 My fists clenched.

 A mistake I wouldn’t make again.

 LAINEY

The rideback to Micah’s house was a short one, and it was all a blur.

I barely noticed when Roman pulled up to a stop in front of the house and helped me off his bike.

I had thought he would leave me here and go back and join his brother, but he surprised me when he turned off the bike and hopped off as well.

I numbly stood there and let him pull off the helmet from my head. When I didn’t move or talk, he grabbed my hand and led me to the front door.

He used his own key and unlocked the door.

I could only stare, thinking I didn’t even have the key to the place, and I supposedly lived here.

Roman noticed my attention and misread my silence. “Sorry. Micah and I always exchanged keys to each other’s place. It’s mostly for safety precautions, but I—”

 I shook my head.

Why was he talking to me like I owned the place?

 I didn’t.

“I don’t even have a key,” I said, my voice set in whispers.

My lips trembled, and Roman cursed under his breath.

“Come on, let’s get you inside. You’re cold.”

I could only nod as he led us in.

 I took in the house.

It was still the same as I had left it this morning, only, everything felt so different.

I wrapped my arms around my middle and looked around.

Roman moved to the thermostat and turned on the heat, but the place was big, and it would be a while before it would actually heat up.

I sat on the couch, and Roman watched me from the recliner.

I looked up and met his eyes.

 “You’re Micah’s brother.”

 He nodded.
