“Wait,” she said. “What are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing, wildcat? I’m taking you home with me.”
She gasped in outrage, and I resisted the urge to smile. Fuck, but I didn’t think I would be in the mood to smile right now.
“You can’t do that!”
I nodded. “Yes, I can.”
“Dad,” came Kai’s tight voice.
“Take Braxton home and watch him. I’ll catch you up as soon as I can.”
Kai looked like he was about to argue but changed his mind at the last moment, giving me a nod and leading Braxton away. He knew better than to argue with me in front of my men.
Braxton looked at me, and I shot him a reassuring smile. He relaxed a little, his eyes trailing over to the teacher until Kai took him out of there.
I waited until my boys were out of sight before I turned back to the little wildcat. Before she could say anything else, I hauled her up over my shoulders, ignoring her protest.
She struggled a bit in my arms, and I tightened my hold. “Stop moving. I don’t want to drop you,” I said, pressing my hand down on her thigh and curving my fingers on the inside of her leg.
She froze, and I took advantage of her momentary distraction to walk back to my bike.
“I saved your son,” she said quietly.
I nodded, even if she couldn’t see me.
I might not know what was going on, but it was clear she’d tried to attack me to keep Braxton safe, despite knowing she wasn’t a match for me.
Hell, I didn’t think she was a match for anyone.
“You did. And I’m returning the favor.”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
I didn’t answer her.
By the time we got back to my bike, Kai and Braxton had already left. Axel and Blade were still there, and they watched as I carried the little wildcat over to my bike and set her down on her feet.
I had an extra helmet hanging on the helmet lock on the back of the bike. It was meant for Braxton, but Kai had an extra helmet hooked on his bike.
This would hopefully fit the little wildcat.
I helped her put it on, feeling her eyes on me the entire time, and not knowing why the fuck my skin was buzzing from awareness from that.
I ignored it, hooked the helmet on, then wrapped my arms around her waist before she could even think about running away. She tensed in my arms. Even without being able to see her face clearly, I could tell she was scared of me.
Nothing I could do about that.
Nothing I could say that would help.
I was a big fucker.
And I was sure the King’s Men MC was talked about in that school. No doubt she’d heard about the moreunsavoryparts of the club… the unsavory parts about me.
“You’re going to get on my bike, and you’re not going to do anything stupid, got me? It’s dark, and I don’t feel like chasing you around. And if you make me, you won’t like it when I catch you. Yeah?”
She didn’t answer me right away. I could hear her breathing harshly, could feel the movements of her chest before she let out a small, “Yeah.”
