Julian takes over the conversation, telling a story about getting caught for public indecency and how Noah had to talk the campus police out of arresting him.
“Lucky for you, or Coach Porter woulda had your ass,” Theo says, placing his arm on the booth behind me, seemingly casual, and Elijah’s gaze burns into me.
“I’d rather he hadmyass,” Sage says, smirking, and I giggle, shaking my head.
Theo leans down to my ear. I stop breathing as his warm breath hits my neck. “Don’t freak out.” He lets out a low chuckle, trailing his fingertips on my shoulder, and my mind is swirling. “I know this is driving you crazy watching E with Andi.”Understatement of the fucking century.“But I also know he’s watching me right now, ready to kill me for being so close to you.”
My lips part at his words, heart pounding hard against my chest.
“Giggle. Right now.” I do as I’m told. “Good girl.” My lips quirk upwards at his praise. “Now look over at him.” I flick my gaze toward Elijah, whose unreadable eyes are locked on me as Andi chats in his ear. “Look away.” I return my gaze forward and catch Sage’s curious eyes.
“You’re bossy.” I smirk, enjoying the game.
“Okay, now do you really wanna have some fun?” My eyes find Elijah again, who’s now chugging a beer.
I bite the inside of my cheek. “Sure.”
He moves away and gestures for me to stand up. I slide out of the booth, and he follows behind as Elijah’s gaze is focused on us.
“I’m gonna take Soph home,” Theo announces, and I purse my lips together to contain the laugh threatening to break free.
“No,” Elijah says firmly, standing up.
“It’s really no problem,” Theo replies cooly, his confidence unwavering as Elijah’s stone-hard eyes bore into him.
“All her stuff is in my truck,” Elijah says, his jaw ticking.
“She can get it from you tomorrow,” Theo counters, not missing a beat.
Elijah’s hopeful gaze flicks to mine. “Soph.”
“Sorry, Honey Bee. Theo stopped drinking at the beach and you just basically shotgunned a beer… so I think I’m more comfortable with him taking me home.”
A tightness forms in my chest as Elijah looks down at his empty glass before pushing it away. “Okay.” His gaze flicks to Theo. “Be careful.”
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t worry, I’ll keep our girl safe.” Theo throws his arm over my shoulder and steers me toward the door.
“You’re crazy,” I whisper to him.
“I don’t even have my car here,” he murmurs back, and we both laugh until we’re outside on the sidewalk. “E was so jealous he forgot I rode with Noah.”
Was Elijah really jealous?
“Uber?” I suggest.
“Yeah, Uber.” He chuckles and pulls out his phone.
Two minutes later, the door of Lazy Moon swings open, and a wide smile spreads across my face.
“Somebody request an Uber?” Julian asks as Sage winks at me.
“Sure did.” Theo grabs my hand and starts dragging me toward Julian’s car. “Hurry before E sees us.”
“He’s gonna kill you, bro,” Julian says, laughing as we all pile in.
A satisfied smirk spreads across Theo’s face. “But it’s gonna be so worth it.”
