His warm grip around my waist when we stand in line for coffee.
And I fucking love it.
“You looking forward to seeing Mark?” I ask, turning the topic to our next destination.
“Yeah.” He smiles. “I am… How are you feeling about being in Longwood?”
“I’m excited to see everyone, even though it’ll be weird not being able to go into Chloe’s room…” Elijah turns his hand upwards, and I tangle my fingers with his.Not to mention the fact I’m hoping Seth won’t show up.
“Did you tell your dad you talked to Lysa?”
“Yeah.”
“And?”
“He was happy I’m giving our relationship another chance.”
“So am I.” He squeezes my hand again. “What is it you’re always telling me? Life’s short; don’t waste a second of it.”
“Yeah… Jake always says it.”
“Well, he seems like a smart guy. Even if he’s kind of dickish sometimes.”
I scoff and laugh. “What?”
“Sorry.” He chuckles. “I know he’s just looking out for you, babe. Hell, if we have a daughter, I wouldn’t let her date a guy like me either.”
If “we” have a daughter?
Calm down, Soph. It’s just a figure of speech.
“Don’t spiral, sweetheart,” Elijah says, reading my mind like always. “I just meant if we ever get to that point, our daughter could do a lot better than a guy like me.”
“You just don’t even know how amazing you are, do you?”
“I guess not.” He smiles and squeezes my hand.
“Well, you are. Andifwe had a hypothetical daughter, she would be lucky to date a man like you.”
Elijah straightens his shoulders, and a huge grin spreads across his face. “You mean that?”
“Of course I do,” I reply as my phone buzzes on my lap.
