They weren’t clowns. They were men who wanted to kill her. But she’d protect Jameson with her life.

“That’s not the only issue,” she said. “You’re a technical genius who’s responsible for The Vale, one of the best-selling modern video games. A software engineer who’s written a program worth millions, possibly billions of dollars.”

“A program that’s now patented,” he said with a grin. “Safe from any predators who want to steal it.”

“Now that the threat is gone, you could have anyone you wanted.” It killed her to say the words, but she wanted him to realize that every door was open to him now.

“Don’t you get it, Bree? The only woman I want is you. I want to make a life with you. I want the chance to show you every day how much I love you. You’re it for me, Bree.”

She wanted to believe him more than she wanted her next breath. So she took the leap. “And you’re it for me, Jameson.”

He swept her into his arms and kissed her until the sun streamed through the kitchen window. Then he unlocked his back door, picked up her suitcases and brought them into his apartment. Locked the door, with her on the inside. With him.

On the two-month anniversary of the day they’d caught McKay, he dropped to one knee in front of her in their living room. “Marry me, Bree. Please. I adore you and always will. You’re the only one for me.”

Her stomach fluttered with hope and love. “Yes, Jameson, I’ll marry you,” she said, and she watched as he slid a gorgeous ring with a huge solitaire diamond onto her finger. She threw her arms around him and kissed him, and he swept her into his arms and carried her into the bedroom.

Much later, as she lay on his chest, tracing his mouth, he picked up her left hand and kissed her palm. Smiling at him, she said, “Just because I said yes doesn’t mean I’m gonna start popping out babies.”

“My powers of persuasion are legendary,” he responded with a grin. “You were a tough nut to crack, but I convinced you to marry me, didn’t I?”

“You did,” she said,” running her fingers over his lips. Brushing a kiss over his mouth with a smile, she said, “Saying yes is getting easier. Maybe you won’t have to try so hard to convince me about the babies.”
