Page 59 of Finding Happily Ever After

She heard the humor in his voice, but still, she squeezed her eyes shut. She loved where they were now. The way things were. She didn’t think she’d be able to survive if—Her thoughts dissolved as Natalie felt the bed shift as Aiden joined her. Still, she kept her eyes shut tight.

“You’re just being silly, now.”

“Am I?”

“You are.” He kissed each of her closed eyelids. “You must be starving. As much as I like you here, exactly as you are in this moment, I should feed you.”

Her stomach rumbled. The idea of food did sound good.

“But if I open my eyes, what if…” She swallowed back her own foolishness. “What if it goes away again?”

Aiden groaned in understanding. “Like last time.”

It wasn’t a question, but Natalie nodded.

She knew she was being foolish and so very childish. Even so, Aiden didn’t try to make her feel that way.

Instead, with a tender, yet commanding voice, he said, “Open your eyes, Natalie. Look at me.” When she didn’t immediately open them, he added, “Please.”

She couldn’t resist him. Finally, she fluttered her eyes open and they locked immediately on his deep-brown eyes, that looked almost black the way they bored into her with so much intensity it made her entire body shiver.

“See?” His voice was a whisper. “It’s still okay. We’restill okay.”

She nodded. “We are.”

“We are.”

He was pressed up against her, so there was no way she could miss the way he twitched against her, once more stirring to life with desire.

“We are,” she said again and wiggled her hips a little.

Aiden groaned. “And you know exactly what you do to me.”

She bit her bottom lip. It was still very new to her, this feeling, and knowing she could elicit the same in him was a heady feeling.

“And not only are we okay,” he said with a kiss. “We’re going to be more than okay.” He kissed her again, longer this time. “Much more than okay.”

Natalie took a deep breath, filling her lungs.

“Do you believe me?”

She nodded. “One hundred percent.”

Aiden shifted over her, moving his body so that his once again hard length was pressed against the cleft between her legs. They’d only just finished making love, but it didn’t matter. Natalie didn’t think she would ever get tired of it and the need he’d woken in her. He looked in her eyes, and she nodded slightly before lifting her hips in welcome.

When he pressed into her, it took Natalie’s breath away, the way it always did. He kissed her as he moved slowly over her. Slower than he ever had before. A tear slipped down her cheek and when Aiden noticed it, he froze.

“Nat, I—”

She smiled and laughed. “It’s good. I’m good. I promise. I’m just so…”

He waited.

“I’m happy.” The words came out in a rush of tears, which made her feel ridiculous, but she couldn’t have stopped them if she tried. When concerned, Aiden tried to shift off her, but Natalie gripped his buttocks. “No.”

Somehow she managed to wrap a leg around him and in a quick movement, she used it for leverage to flip him so he was on his back and she was now in control. His wide eyes registered as much surprise as she felt at what had just happened.

“I never…wow.”
