“Maybe you need a little distraction from whatever it is that has your mind all twisted up?”
“A distraction?” Natalie tipped her head up in question.
Aiden answered with a kiss.
Right there in front of everyone. And it wasn’t just ahellokind of kiss. It was aI can’t wait to get you alonekiss. And Natalie had absolutely no problem reciprocating it.
It didn’t take her long to forget that they were in a room full of people, most of whom she’d just met. As soon as Aiden slipped a hand up her back to twine his fingers through her hair, she was completely lost to the moment.
Oh, who was she kidding. She was lost the moment his lips touched hers.
Aiden held some sort of magical spell over her. One she had absolutely no interest in breaking. Not if it meant making her entire body come alive the way he did.
Absolutely not.
But then it was over. Aiden pulled away a little and touched his finger to her lips. “I’ve been wanting to do that since…well, since the moment I saw you today. I didn’t think the fire hall in front of your boss on his big day was necessarily the right place, though, so I waited.”
It took her a moment to catch her breath, but when she did, she smiled and cupped her hand on his cheek. “It was definitely worth the wait.”
“I’m pretty sure that’s not going to be the only thing worth the wait.”
Her body flared with need, and there was an unmistakable heat between her legs.Oh, it would definitely be worth the wait.
If they were at any other function besides the celebration for her new boss, Natalie would have taken Aiden and immediately left with him so that there would be no more waiting at all. But, despite the endorphins crashing through her, trying to convince her otherwise, she sighed and forced herself to take a step back from him. “But I guess we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer, because we only just got here.”
She surprised herself with her boldness, but at the same time, it felt natural. It wasn’t bold. It was the next step and one she wanted to leap into. What was the point in tiptoeing around it? She wanted him.
He nodded his agreement but before he released her completely, he pulled her in for one more quick kiss and whispered in her ear. “All I will be thinking about all night is getting you naked and kissing every inch of your body.” He pressed a small, but impactful kiss on her neck and finally stepped away, leaving her with the only thing she’d be able to think about all night, too.
The party was both an extreme form of exquisite torture for Aiden with Natalie looking so damn sexy in her dress that hugged all her curves, knowing that in only a few short hours he’d be taking that dress off her, and also at the same time, a huge amount of fun. It turned out that Natalie was a great dancer. Paired with his moves gleaned from chaperoning more than his fair share of high school dances, they had a great time on the dance floor.
It didn’t hurt that anytime he was able to spin her close enough, he gave her a sneaky little kiss.
Aiden couldn’t remember the last time he’d had so much fun flirting and building the anticipation of what was going to come next with a woman. Anddamn, what was coming next…he couldn’t even let himself think about it if he was going to get through the rest of the party without pulling her into the bathroom to get completely inappropriate with her.
It wasn’t a bad idea. But it wasn’t the way he wanted their first time together to be.
He planned to take his time with her. Kiss every inch of her, make her squirm with pleasure over and over before finally…
Dammit. He needed to stop thinking about it.
Aiden forced himself to look away from where Natalie was chatting with a few friends. She’d gone to the restroom and been caught up by the women on her way back. He had to fight the urge to go to her. He’d never felt such an urge to be close to someone as he had with Natalie. But he didn’t want to come on too strong, despite the feelings he was having that were exactly that. Besides, it would do them some good to spend a few minutes apart. They could use the cooling off time.
He scanned the room and his eyes landed on Damon Banks, who was talking with a man he’d never met and was holding a…baby?
This town, and the people in it, never failed to surprise him.
With a shake of his head, he grabbed a bottle of water from a nearby tub and joined the men. “Hi.” He turned to the man he didn’t know. “Sorry to interrupt. I’m Aiden Adams. I’m pretty new to town and I don’t think we’ve met.”
The other man extended his hand. “Nick Newton” His smile was friendly, if not a bit tired. He pushed his glasses up his nose and added, “This is my daughter Amelia.”
The baby was cute, maybe about five or six months old, not that Aiden had any experience with babies at all, and wide awake, busying herself with trying to grab Damon’s nose, something both the babyandDamon found equally entertaining.
“We’ve actually just officially moved to Glacier Falls,” Nick said. “So technically we’re new, too. Nice to meet you.”
“Looks good on you,” Aiden said to Damon, who had started to make cooing baby noises to little Amelia.
Nick burst out laughing.
