I waited, not caring at all that I was allowing the seconds to drip by.
He could keep all his details to himself. This was the only one that mattered. If I was just some way for him to blow off steam before an eventual wedding, then this ended now. Because I would never be—
“You’re not the other woman, Kayla,” he said, plucking the words from my mind. “I’m very single.”
“Okay.” I studied him for a second longer, deciding how to proceed. Then I realized there was really only one way to move forward. “I’m ready for you to kiss me again, Professor.”
Maddox
That was it?
No other questions?
I just gave her a gift I’d never given anyone—a chance to ask me anything and receive the absolute truth. And all she wanted to know was my relationship status?
Not to date me, or to propose, but to ensure she wasn’t the other woman.
I’m okay with being a secret, but not at the expense of someone else’s feelings.
No comment as to her own. Just concern for someone else. For abride.
Fuck, I hadn’t expected Dustin to say that over the speaker. Had I known, I wouldn’t have allowed her to hear it. Just the wordsElite Bridecould earn her a death sentence, or worse. She was a stunning woman. And that whole Sin Cave network preyed upon gorgeous women. Thankfully, he hadn’t mentioned the organization’s name. That would have made this even more dangerous.
“What you just heard,” I started, but she pressed a finger to my lips.
“I don’t care what he said, Professor. I care about the night of sex you promised me. Now either take me inside and fuck me or drive me home.”
I gripped her chin, unsure if I wanted to thrash her for interrupting me or kiss her stupid.
The latter came more naturally, her lips an invitation I couldn’t deny. I leaned in for a nibble and ended up losing myself in her mouth.
So perfect,I marveled. She’s so damn perfect.
I came to Nashville to live a normal life. To avoid the complexities of my true fate. And Kayla Mickelson offered an opportunity I couldn’t deny.
She made me feel normal.
Wicked.
Like a boy making all the wrong choices.
A rule breaker to the extreme.
She was forbidden on a myriad of levels, and I wanted to experience each one and violate every potential ordinance I could just to say I’d done it. To say I’dlived.
I released her chin to open the door, then I helped her out of my car without a word and joined her on my feet. She said nothing, her eyes on me as I led her through the garage and into my house. I disarmed the alarm, then rearmed it seconds after locking up.
“Do you need anything to drink?” I asked her, starting down a hall that led to the kitchen.
“No.”
I paused, glancing over my shoulder to find her waiting with an expectant raised brow. “What do you want, Kayla?”
“You.”
A perfect answer from a perfect girl.
She didn’t want to ask me any other questions. She didn’t want to know my secrets. She just wanted to add to them in her own wicked way, become the student I once fucked and claimed—then discarded sometime after.
