"You're welcome. Now, I have something to show you." The elevator stops on the forty-forth floor and we step out, seeing construction men still walking around and setting up furniture.
I look over at Isobel who's eyes have gone wide, but for once in her life she's silent.
Our eyes take in the ferns, the wooden and marble two seater reception desk with ISKing Design, INC. backlit in the wall behind her in wrought-iron letters. Ahead is a beautiful lobby with a coffee station, grey carpeting, and past the reception area is a long glass wall, half-frosted for privacy that hosts a boardroom and a twenty seater table.
She looks at me with an expression I can't quite place. "I SKing?"she says quietly, arching an eyebrow at me.
"Yes, because we're a team, and we're going to behave like one." I tilt my head, seeing her eyes well with tears. "I took the liberty of giving you one of my receptionists to borrow until you hire two of your own. Walk around, check out your office area, and anything that you want, you have a business card to use. It's in your purse. This is my wedding present to you."
Isobel sniffs and wipes a tear away, before sniffing again. "You trust me with yourname?"
I chuckle as she puts her hand over her mouth and openly weeps. "Oh baby, come here,"I say softly, pulling her into me and turn us so we are facing away from Gustavo who thankfully makes himself scarce. "Of course I do, my love. I trust you so much." Tears sting my own eyes. "I know I won't do everything perfect, but I'm trying, Izzy. I really am," I whisper into ear, stroking a hand down her hair, and she pulls her head back, looking up at me.
"Can you kiss me?" she says, her breath hitching on a sob. I lean down and kiss her softly, rubbing my nose against hers in an eskimo kiss. "Anytime you want, sexy."
I pinch her ass, snapping her out of it and she jerks against me squealing before I shush her with another kiss.
"Mrs. King, welcome. It's so nice to see you." We both look over, pulling away slowly as Blair, my assistant Sylvia's second hand woman, walks around the corner and holds her hand out to Isobel. My cue to get the fuck out of here.
I clear my throat, stepping backwards as Blair pulls her deeper into the office area. "Bye, baby, I'm only two floors up if you need me."
I enter into the elevator with Gustavo.
"Sir, Marco is on his way up now to Mrs. King."
I nod my head. "Thank you Gustavo. Were you able to get ahold of Christopher?"
"Yes sir, he will be here at four-thirty just as you requested."
The elevators ding and we step out into the bustling floor of King Dynasty, Architect sector. "Perfect. Thank you, G." I head through the glass doors of my office and turn. "Oh, G?"
He raises a bushy black brow at me. "Yes sir?"
"Make sure Mrs. King is indisposed during that time please." I turn, dismissing him.
"Yes sir."
I start my day, going over my appointments with Sylvia, accepting some wonderfully roasted coffee from her temporary assistant, needing it after the night I had. I can't help thinking about my wife, two floors below, and how she's liking her wedding present.
Look at me being a good husband.
I smile, only half listening to Sylvia as she goes over my appointment book for the next week.
I see my last client out my office a quarter after four, and spend the last fifteen minutes trying to decompress and get ready for my meeting with Christopher.
Babe, this office is so dreamy. What can I do to thank you?-Izzy
I smile, leaning against the window of my office and tap out my reply. Knowing she's just two floors down right within my reach at any given moment makes me desperate.
Give me some time to think about it, I'm sure I can come up with something, it won't take long though, so don't hold your breath.-King
"Sir, Mr. Jameson is in the lobby waiting." Sylvia's slightly disembodied voice enters my office through my intercom system and I put my phone down on the desktop, sitting in my office chair and relaxing myself.
"Send him in."
"Alone?"
"Yes. What's he going to do, Sylvia?" I say sarcastically. "He's all broken up right now."
