He tugged Akio closer, lips against his ear as he spoke. “That dance was when everything changed between us.”
Akio’s shaky breath had him smiling.
“I love you, husband,” he whispered, face buried in Akio’s hair.
Akio chuckled and when he pulled back, he found the man looking at him with a teasing gleam in his brown eyes.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
He arched a brow at Akio who shook his head, red tinting his cheeks.
“Well, now you’ve definitely gotta tell me.”
“I just can’t believe I get to call you my husband.”
“Funny.” He tugged Akio even closer, forcing him to tilt his head back to keep their eye contact. “That’s what I was gonna say.”
“Hmm. Bright minds think alike?”
A laugh rumbled from him. “Sure, let’s go with that.”
Others started to join them on the dance floor and from Akio’s low laugh, he’d expected Addie to drag Diesel out to dance with her. Diesel indulged her with a soft smile though he glared at anyone who looked at them.
Chris was sitting with some of the club members Akio had wanted at the wedding, Jace and Ares, along with a few others. Chris was watching his husband and daughter lovingly and every once in a while when Lucas noticed things like that, he got the sense that everything had happened exactly as it was supposed to.
His gaze landed on Tahir who was charming Sanchez’s daughters. Meanwhile, their boss looked absolutely murderous as he scowled at Tahir from across the table. Mo was at his side, laughing his ass off while Evan and his wife were out on the dance floor, looking the picture of newlyweds despite having been married for almost a decade.
He returned his gaze to Akio and hoped the man would always look at him the way he was now, love and devotion swirling in those beautiful brown eyes.
They swayed to the music a little while longer until he caught his husband looking longingly at something over his shoulder.
“Do you want more cake?”
Akio’s eyes jumped to his, his cheeks turning pink as he gave Lucas a sheepish smile and nodded.
He pressed a kiss to Akio’s lips and grabbed his hand, tugging him toward the table where the cake was. Their wedding cake was of course made entirely with chocolate. Nothing else would do.
He cut Akio a piece and stole a bite before handing it to his husband. Akio rolled his eyes but smiled wryly at him before stuffing his mouth.
His gaze returned to the dance floor where Gemma’s niece, Harper, had taken over dancing with Addie from Diesel who had hurried back to his seat. It had been Akio’s idea to ask Addie if she wanted to talk to Harper. They had been through similar horrors and the girls had hit it off after a few moments of awkwardness. They had been inseparable ever since.
Things had worked out better for Gemma than he’d dared hope and while she’d lost her job and was currently doing prison time, she would be out in a few years. She had taken the sentence with a smile and told him it was well worth it. Looking at a giggling Harper now, he knew she was right.
He saw the wide smile on his husband’s face before he looked up, gaze landing on two people staring into each other’s eyes as they swayed to the music in the far corner of the dance floor.
“I think we know whose wedding we’re going to next,” he said, keeping his voice low so only Akio would hear.
Akio chuckled and looked up at him with sparkling eyes.
It would never cease to warm his heart when he heard that laughter. Never.
“I think she’ll drive him nuts for a little while longer before she agrees to settle down,” Akio said.
“Knowing Maggie, that’s probably true.”
He wrapped an arm around Akio’s waist and tugged him against his side.
“Kiss me?”
Akio looked at him with love shining in his brown eyes and did just that.
