She released an annoyed sound. “You know what I mean. We barely know each other and we’re already in bed together.”

The notion sounded glorious, if a little off. And I hated how panicked she sounded. Like the idea disgusted her or something. That was a damn blow to my ego.

“You know you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, right?” I reminded gently.

I knew the feelings between us were intense, but I didn’t want her to feel in any way obligated to have to lay next to me.

I knew she wanted me with almost as much certainty as I knew she would be mine. But if there was one thing she was going to learn, it was that I would never pressure her into doing anything.

My words seemed to make her battle with herself. I started to get up, kicking away the covers. If I truly did make her uncomfortable, then it was better if I–

“We just met,” she whispered, stopping me before I could get up. “I never do this… I don’t spend the night with people I just met. I don’t have one night stands.”

It was a good thing I wanted her for more than a one night stand.

“Nena, I don’t want a one night stand. If you knew what I was really thinking–” I broke off. She was already wary enough and I didn’t need to pile more onto that. “If I make you uncomfortable, I’ll leave.”

“Don’t.”

That single word halted me.

“But you just said–”

“I don’t do this, Miguel, and yet… with you, I want to. I shouldn’t, I know I shouldn’t, but I’m drawn to you. Like I’ve never been drawn to anyone before.”

She looked so unsure about the words she just spoke, like she was wondering how I’d take them. Like I was a pussy who would go running at the first sign of realness. Of promise. Of commitment.

Perhaps that was before. Before Zeke. Before my world was upended. Before I met her. I wanted for more. It was like that restlessness that had been overtaking me for a while now suddenly shifted into something different and new around her. It eased and I was no longer unsure butsettled.

I wanted a fucking family.

“I’m drawn to you, too.”

Her words gave me hope. For us and what was to come. For a future we could potentially have.

“Okay.” She exhaled a deep breath. “Now what?”

“What doyouwant, Lorena?” I asked. “Like I said, I’m not going to force you into anything you don’t want me to do. I know how to take a hint. If you want me gone, I’ll leave. If you want me to stay, all you have to do is say the word.”

She stared, fingers digging into the blankets with indecisive fervor. She avoided my gaze for a long time so I made the decision for the both of us, turning and making my way towards the door to leave.

“Stay,” she whispered.

Again, I halted and turned. “You’re sure?”

She swallowed and met my gaze, looking braver than I’d seen her. “Y-yeah.”

My lips slowly curled into a smile and I went to slip back beneath the covers. This time, I closed the space between us, reaching for her thick body. She all but curved into me, slipping her cold feet in between my legs. Our lower bodies met in the middle, and her proximity made my cock pulse.

Lorena let out a breath and her body tensed before she wiggled closer, close enough for her soft flesh to push snugly against the tip of my erection. She pressed closer still, and the grunt that left my throat was almost pained.

“Nena, the fuck are you doing?”

She stopped in her tracks, and without all that moving she gave my dick a moment to breathe and settle down.

“I’m getting comfortable,” she whispered.

Her minty breath fanned across my skin like a beckoning. My primitive brain urged me to get closer, to take her mouth in mine.
