I finally get my eyes to work with me and open them all the way. Blinking at the harsh hospital fluorescent lights. You’d think they’d at least be nice enough to keep the lights off or down low. Or hell, get a lamp in here. Why make people wake up from an accident or a surgery to bright ass fucking lights?

As I look around the room, I notice that I am alone. Where the hell are those fucking prospects? I am going to beat their asses when I get out of here.

I slowly sit up and notice that I am at least still in my clothes. They just took my boots and jacket off, but they are laying close by on an extra chair in the corner of the room.

I swing my legs over the side of the stiff bed and groan. Fuck, that hurts. I don’t see any bad road burns. It looks like my palms have some scrapes, but I can't see anything else right now. I am just extremely sore from being thrown off my bike. I get up and make my way around the bed, where there seems to be a door to a bathroom.

“Fuck.” I groan when I see myself in the mirror. There are scrapes on the left side of my face and a small gash on the side of my head they stitched. I try to wash the dirt off my scraped-up hands as gently as I can and then go back out and pull my boots and jacket on. I am moving much fucking slower than I’d like. But whatever, as long as I can get out of here soon.

As soon as I go to open the door, it opens from the outside and a petite blonde girl is standing in front of me. I am by no means tall. I mean, my younger brother is about three inches taller than me at 6’3, but this girl is fucking tiny. Probably barely five feet.

She glowers up at me with her bright shimmering blue eyes. “You should not be out of bed,” she says with much more authority and balls than I expected from such a tiny thing facing off with me.

I smirk down at her. “Yeah? Well, since I am already up and seem to be moving just fine, I think I am good to go.”

She crosses her arms over her chest. “You need to be checked over again now that you are awake, and you just got stitches in your head. You need to stay overnight so that they can make sure there are no other injuries you might have sustained.”

I shake my head. “Well, you can check me out as I walk out the door. Don’t forget to check my ass out too. It’s pretty nice, if I do say so myself.” I gently push past her and start heading down the hall. I swear I hear her growl as I walk away.

The elevator at the end of the hall opens as I get closer, and Sugar steps out. He sees me and then glances past me and raises a brow, dragging his eyes back to me. I look over my shoulder and see that the girl is following me.

“Not gonna happen, pixie. Go help someone who actually needs it.”

Sugar holds the elevator open, and I step in. He shakes his head and says, “Not worth it, darlin’. He won’t crack.”

She huffs and turns around, storming back down the hall, and I snicker, which is abruptly cut off as the elevator doors push shut and Sugar turns his hard eyes on me. “What the fuck happened? Why were you travelin’ alone?” he demands.

My brows hit my hairline. “That is what I would like to know. We found Harley, but then when we tried to follow her a truck hit me, and I woke up here. I wasn’t alone. Where the fuck are Daniel and Connor? They were with me.” My voice raises as my temper spikes. What the fuck is going on?

“Connor is back at the clubhouse, said after y'all found the girl you sent him back, and no one has seen Daniel. Axe was actually callin’ him when I got the call ‘bout you. They called Rage first, but he didn't answer, so the hospital called me. You can wait ‘til we get back to tell me everything so Doc can check you over before we rehash shit. Somethin’ isn't sittin’ right with me, Blade.”

I grumble, “Yeah, I feel the same. We'll figure it out.”

We head out to the parking lot to the truck Sugar drove over here and drive back to the clubhouse in silence. My mind is running with questions about what happened. Both prospects were behind me. I know they were.

After we get back, Doc checks me over and then I go and flop down on the couch in Rage’s office, sprawling out dramatically knowing we need to talk but also needing to lay down. When Rage, Sugar, Nerds, Axe, and Stone come in, they all look at me and chuckle, besides Stone who just shakes his head.

“Fuck off, you assholes. I just got hit by a fucking truck! I could’ve died. Show me you love me.”

Rage and Sugar both laugh while the others just shake their heads. I grin as they laugh; I hate it when shit is too tense. Gotta find ways to lighten the mood.

The mood turns serious, and I reluctantly sit up, my body aching. But we have shit to discuss. I walk them through everything that has happened so far today up until Sugar picked me up.

Rage looks at Axe. “Did you find Daniel?”

Axe nods. “Yeah, I did. Let me get him in here.” I plug my ears, knowing what's coming next as Axe opens the door and yells, “PROSPECTS!''

Within two minutes, all four of them are there. Axe nods to Daniel and has him come in then shuts the doors on the other ones. I snicker because of course he'd scare them all like that. Any chance he gets, he will. I couldn’t fully see their faces from where I am on the couch, but I am sure they all looked ready to shit their pants.

I glare at Daniel. He's one of our young ones. He graduated last year from high school and immediately wanted to prospect. He also thinks I don't know how he treats my brothers, but I'm the enforcer. I know all the shit happening in my club. He's a cocky shit, but so far, he's been doing just fine with all prospect duties.

“Prospect, walk me through today from your perspective. Don't leave a single detail out. Not even when you stopped to take a piss. I want everything,” I say.

He gulps and then starts talking about helping to find Harley, following me out, staying with me, and then when the truck hit me. “I tried to signal to you that I saw it coming right through. But you didn't see me signal. The truck blew through, and I slid sideways to avoid hitting the truck and hit the ground instead. I hit my head and passed out. When I came to, some random guy was checking me over, and I noticed you were already gone. He said another ambo was on the way, but I didn't want it, so I jumped up planning to take my bike back here, but it was gone. I don't know what happened to it. The guy offered me a ride here. When I got here, I got cleaned up then made my way back to look at the accident site before heading to get you. Axe called me on the way saying to get back here so I did, and I’ve been waiting since.”

Before I can crush him for being stupid, Rage does. “Prospect, did you lose brain cells when you hit your head? What is one of the first rules as a prospect? Something, anything at all happens, what is the first fucking thing you do?”

He glares at Daniel, who says, “Call a member.”
