He dragged his fingers through my hair, rinsing it out. “I’ll wash your hair any day, babe.”
A laugh bubbled out of me. He had never called mebabebefore. I turned around to face him and raised an eyebrow.
He shrugged. “I thought a shampoo guy would call his client babe.”
I ran my fingers through his hair. “Did you wash your hair already?”
He nodded. “But you can wash it again if you’d like.”
I shook my head and smiled. “Nah, let’s dry off. I’m sure you are tired.”
We got out of the shower, and he wrapped a towel around his waist while I wrapped myself in a bathrobe.
“Ainslee.” The way he said my name had me turning to look at him. There was a frown line between his eyebrows, his hair still plastered to his head. Something worried him. “If you want me to end my otherbusinesses,I will. With the baby on the way and our family expanding, I don’t want you to feel unsafe.”
I tilted my head and my heart ached with so much love for him. I went to him and took his hands into mine and squeezed gently.
“I don’t want you to change anything, Daniel. There is danger everywhere but as long as we are together, we are safe.”
“Together,” he murmured as he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me tight into his arms. “My Nightingale.”
