Page 28 of Thrust into the Light
Ihead back to my apartment to pack up my shit. There is no way in hell that I am going to stay away from her. I sent the notice to the administration that I found my match, so there shouldn’t be any issues with me moving into the match housing. As I go to unlock my door, it is already unlocked. I push open the door, looking around, and see Sarah spread out on my table naked. I rub my face.
“You need to leave now, and never fucking talk to me again.”
She stands up and pouts at me. I refuse to disrespect my match by looking at any part of her other than her eyes.
“Oh come on Zach, don’t be that way, news is that a teacher found their match and I know how that makes you feel, so why don’t you take your frustration out on me like you usually do, I promise I’ve been a very naughty girl while I was waiting for you.” She flutters her eyes at me.
“I’m the one who found their match. Now get out of my fucking apartment and don’t talk to me again unless it involves our students.”
“So that’s it huh, you’re going to throw all of this away for a little girl. Pfft, you’ll be back when you realize she can’t give you what I can.”
She walks away, and I slam the door behind me after she clears the doorway. I should never have started fucking her, but as an incubus, I need sexual energy to replenish my magic. Fuck, well guess it’s just going to be me and my hand for a while. Maybe Ishould let the match groups sit together in class. I can siphon off some of their energies while they are pawing at each other.
I don’t really have a lot of shit in here that I’d want to take with me. The table can now be set on fucking fire for all I care. I head to my bedroom to gather up my clothes and important papers and shit from in there. I do a last sweep of my room to make sure I’m not forgetting anything I’d want. The rest of it can be donated to an orphanage, except that table. It needs burnt. I grab my two duffle bags of shit and head towards the door. I will let the academy know the apartment is free, and anything in there is to be donated, well all except my guitar. I grab it off the wall and take it with me. It has been so long since I’ve played; I wonder how my match will react to hearing it. If she hasn’t experienced much in her life, does she know what music is?
Music is one of those magical things that can transcend languages, and can touch your soul in ways that nothing else can. It’s a power unto itself. Maybe this is how I will get her to open up to me.
My phone begins to vibrate in my pocket. I pull it out and see a message from Connor. I open it.
Connor: Her heart just started beating again, not sure how much longer she’ll be asleep for.
I don’t bother responding. Leaving the key in the door, I run towards her.

Connor was right! I did dream of more than just eyes this time; he was there, and so was Instructor Fry! The other eyes were there, nothing else of them though, but I was between Connor and Instructor Fry and they had their arms around me, giving me a hug from the front and from the back. It was nice, and it made my stomach feel funny down low again. Maybe Connor will know why I keep feeling funny like that.
I don’t remember falling asleep. I remember moving fast, and feeling like I couldn’t breathe, and then feeling like something heavy was on my chest. I sit up fast and close my eyes fast because the light is on.
“Fuck, sweet girl, I’m sorry. I didn’t think you’d wake up so fast. Just give me a second to turn off the bright light and I’ll turn on one of the smaller ones.”
He turns off the bright light and I see him holding his phone, touching the screen a lot. He uses it to show him where he is walking and goes to one of the small lights in the room and turns it on. It still hurts my eyes a little, but it isn’t as bad as it was before. I look down at myself; remembering having blood on me, but there isn’t any. I am still in the clothes I was in before.
“Where blood go?”
“I cleaned it off you after I got you in bed. I didn’t think you’d want to sleep in it. How are you feeling? Are you tired?”
“Hungry? Stomach feels funny.” His words made my stomach feel funny again.
“Where is it feeling funny at? And does it hurt at all?”
“No hurt, feels funny.” I put my hand where it feels funny.
His entire face turns red. Not like angry red, but he has his mouth open and is looking around the room fast, like he’s trying to find something.
“Uh, alright, I will try to explain this to you, and I want you to know that I am probably not going to explain it right, so we may have to bring it up with Zachariah, maybe he can explain it better than I can.”
“Well, I’m here now, so what is it I can explain to her?”
I look up and see Instructor Fry standing in the door, his red eyes looking at me. It doesn’t scare me, but it makes my stomach feel funny again. My face feels like it’s on fire again and I try to hide in my hair. Connor grabs his phone and taps on it for a minute, then sets it down. Instructor Fry pulls his phone out and looks at it. He looks at me and then back at his phone. He does a weird thing where one of his eyebrows raises higher than the other one. Connor nods his head at him.
“Alright Farlen, Zachariah is going to explain this to you, you can trust him just like you trust me okay, he’s not going to hurt you, but he can’t hear in your head like I can so you have to use your words with him. Remember, he won’t hurt you. He’s your soulmate, just like I am okay. He’s supposed to be a part of you.”
I nod to Connor. If he says Instructor Fry won’t hurt me, then I believe him.
“I’m going to make you some peanut butter sandwiches. When he’s done talking to you, come on out and eat.”
