Page 20 of Keep Me
The same gambling old lady was in the elevator as I stepped in.
“Going down this time?” she said with a raised brow and a smirk.
My hair was a mess, I, no doubt, had Britt’s lipstick all over me, and I was certain I smelled of cum. There was no denying it this time.
I grinned and said, “Yup” before pressing the button to my floor. Staring at the elevator doors, I couldn’t help but smile thinking about Britt. She was the perfect girl in Mary Janes, and I desperately wanted to wear her legs as earmuffs for the rest of my life.
When the elevator stopped on my floor, I slinked around the older lady, hoping she couldn’t smell the alcohol and sex on me. It’d already been a long night, or I guessed it was day now, but I was looking forward to extending my time with Britt.
When the doors opened and I stepped onto my floor, I froze.
“Britt? Are you okay?”
I couldn’t think straight. What was she doing down here? The love of my life was sitting on the floor with her face in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably.
“What happened?” I asked as I rushed over to her, kneeling at her side, but balked when she flicked her hair over her shoulder.
Olana.
“What are you doing here?” My eyes tracked her tear-soaked face, then her hair. “And when did you go blonde?”
“Matty,” she said with enough hope in her voice to make my dick flaccid. “I thought I had the wrong room.”
“What are you doing here?” I asked again, knowing if I said anything else, she’d pull some stunt to distract me.
Her bottom lip trembled, which seemed considerably fuller than the last time I saw her. “I-I-I came to see you.” There was a sad edge in her voice, and I wasn’t stupid. This wasn’t the first time she’d tried to manipulate me into feeling sorry for her. It was, however, the first time I wouldn’t give in to it.
“You know where I live.”
“Do I? Because when I went to your house, your dad said you weren’t there. He said you haven’t come back since Evelyn died.”
I squeezed my eyes shut, hating the memory but refusing to discuss my mom with her. It was the same trick she always used, and I was wiser to it now.
“How did you find me?” I asked, moving away from her and standing. I didn’t want to be here discussing anything with Olana when I had Britt naked and waiting for me upstairs.
Olana ignored my question and stood on shaky heels. Her panda-like eyes shifted from the hotel door to me. “Can I come in?” she asked.
“No.”
She stepped back in surprise, hitting the door, but tried to mask her frown. I’d never said no to Olana, and I had to admit that it felt good.
“Please, Ben. It’s important.”
And being inside Britt was important to me.
“How did you get here?”
“I drove. Darwin Falls is only a few hours away.” Ah, yes, Darwin Falls, my hometown and the place I planned on visiting one more time to legally sign the house over to my father. That was all he wanted, after all, and was the sole reason he contacted me after I left for college.
“Then you can drive back. Like you said, it’s only a few hours away.”
It was taking everything in me not to feel like a monumental douche as her gaze flicked across my face with the same sadness I’d seen before, but I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t bring myself to fall for any more of her games.
“Matty.” She huffed, reaching for my arm, but I stepped to the side before she could get to me. I didn’t have time for this. “What’s gotten into you?”
I blew out my breath and turned to my room door. “Nothing. I’m tired, and you’re not supposed to be here.”
“Of course I’m not. I wasn’t invited, as usual. Your friends hate me for no reason, and you just go along with it.”
