“You want to establish a firm footing. If your stance is too narrow, you’ll be knocked over with ease.” She demonstrated, and I mirrored, setting my feet shoulder width apart.

“Okay, next?”

“Hold your hands like so.” She lifted them into a fighting position, but rather than fists, she’d bared her claws.

These weren’t the long, intimidating claws of her wolf, but short, black, razor-sharp little claws that must come from her Tainted Court lineage.

“Um, I don’t have those.” I showed my own short nails that would probably break if I didn’t cut them down soon. “And I doubt these flimsy things are going to make much of an impact.”

“Enough, Pypentha. You and Deasley are going to get the queen killed in the event she has to defend herself.”

I dropped my hands immediately, embarrassed at how stupid I probably looked. Lucifer had walked up behind me at some point, and now that I knew he was there, it was unbelievable that I hadn’t felt the heat of him at my back before now.

Turning to face him, I looked up into blue eyes already flecked with flame. Sweat gleamed on his chest as it rose and fell.

I had to clench my stupid hands to keep them to myself.

“You’re teaching her to fight like a demon, Pyp. She is a demoness, but she still has the thought process of a human woman. That’s an advantage she can use to take an attacker off guard.”

“I was getting there, Commander. I just needed to teach her the basics first.” Pyp looked miffed that her lesson had been interrupted, but she knew better than to tell Lucifer to get lost.

“How about you teach Deasley to hold on to his sword before you try to take on another student?”

She muttered something I couldn’t hear before snatching her sword from Deasley and stomping across the training yard. “Come on, incubus, we’re losing the light.”

I stepped closer to Lucifer, unable to resist the intense need to be near him. “You’re so hard on them. Especially Deasley. Not everyone is a swordsman.”

“But enough are that if I don’t push him, he’ll die in his first real conflict.” His words were dire, but he was under the same spell that I was. He took a single step forward. There were scant inches between us now.

“What about me? Will I die because I don’t know how to fight?”

“The only thing going to get you killed here is your mouth, Fire Lily, but fortunately you have me to stop any who would try.”

I wanted to take offense at that, but I couldn’t find the lie in his statement. “What if you’re not around?”

“Then perhaps I should demonstrate a few things for you. Like what to do if someone has you pinned to the ground.”

Air whooshed from my lungs as he snatched me to him and dropped us to the ground. A quick repositioning and he was straddling my hips.

Danger zone…

“What would you do to get me off of you, my Queen?”

“Why would I want to do something so very, very stupid?”

His smug grin slightly infuriated me, but not nearly as much as it turned me on.

“Surely this position isn’t to your best advantage to get what you want. So how would you change it?”

I bucked my hips up, but he didn’t budge. He wasn’t holding my hands, so I shoved his chest and lifted my hips again. The joint effort was even less effective.

The skin of his chest was so warm under my palms, I couldn’t prevent them from curling against him.

Desire flared in his eyes as he looked down at me.

He liked me underneath him. His hardening cock against my lower belly made that abundantly clear.

And it would be his undoing.
