Jenna’s shoulders dropped and she rolled her eyes. “Fine. Go on.”

“Okay. On Halloween, Trick, his kids and another biker with a little boy showed up on my doorstep. To say I was shocked would be putting it mildly.” She completely skipped over the night of parent/teacher conferences and how she’d had sex with Trick in her classroom. No way was she confessing to that.

“What did you do?” Cami leaned in.

“Well, I was struck stupid, so I stood their staring at him, completely ignoring the fact that he had other people with him. He seemed as shocked to see me as I was him. The thing that snapped us out of our stupor was his little girl—who is so freaking adorable—was trying to tell him she needed to use the bathroom. Now. I let them all in and showed them where the bathroom was at. After a few minutes, Trick and his little girl, Reagan, came back to the living room. Seeing him carrying a blonde wig and a sparkly crown in his big hand almost caused me to melt into a puddle.”

“Aww. Seeing big bad bikers with their little ones just melts your heart, doesn’t it?” Cami was looking a little dreamy-eyed. Did she have the hots for one of the Sons of Redemption? Did she want something more than friendship with one of them?

“Go ahead.” Jenna tried to steer the conversation back on course.

“Anyway, he showed up at my house the next day after I got off work. He said he was out riding around and ended up there. Then he asked me if I wanted to go for a ride on his motorcycle.” Pulling up and finding his motorcycle parked outside her house had been exciting. She’d been nervous wondering what would have brought him to her door.

“Bike,” Cami spit out.

“What?”

“They call them bikes, not motorcycles.”

“Oh, okay.” Cami should know. She spent a lot of time there and was sure to have picked up on some things.

“He took you for a ride on his bike and…?” Jenna once again tried to get to the point where things went bad with Trick yesterday.

“We rode around for a little while and ended up at Crooked Dick’s.”

Jenna choked on her wine. “What?” she wheezed, while slapping her chest.

“It’s a bar and they serve the best burgers I’ve ever eaten in my life. Oh, and I ran into Kurtis there. Is that weird or what?” Both women nodded their heads in agreement. “After we left Crooked Dick’s,” Jenna snickered again, “we went back to my place. We spent the whole weekend together. It was so amazing.” Lindsey couldn’t stop the smile that came with remembering that weekend even if she tried.

“What were you guys doing all weekend?” Jenna wiggled her finger in a circular motion toward Lindsey.

“Fucking.” Lindsey’s eyes shot wide at Cami’s conclusion and it was her turn to choke on her wine. “Yeah, they were so fucking all weekend.”

Cami thought it was hilarious that Lindsey and Jenna had such a hard time using swear words. They told her it was because they were elementary school teachers. She told them as long as they weren’t swearing in class or at the children, they could say all the swear words they wanted to outside of work. In the end, it didn’t matter. It just felt weird for Lindsey. Although, she had been known to use a swear word here or there when she’d been extremely angry or really drunk. They’d be surprised how many swear words she said to herself in her head. She blamed all the MC romance novels she read.

“Yes, we did. All weekend. Everything was amazing and I was looking forward to seeing him again after school on Monday, but his ex-wife called Mr. Talbot and tried to get me fired. She said I was having sex with her husband.”

“Oh my God! How would she even know that? What did Mr. Talbot say? And most importantly, why didn’t you tell me all this was going on? We work together for Pete’s sake.” Jenna bounced in her seat, firing off rapid questions, and almost dumping her glass of wine. She did end up getting a little on her hand and absently licked it off.

“I didn’t say anything because I was too upset to talk about it at the time. At first I was scared for my job, then I was just mad that his ex had to go and ruin everything. As for how she found out, she also happened to be at Crooked Dick’s that night and saw me and Trick together. She apparently didn’t like it. As for Mr. Talbot, after I told him that she was trying to cause trouble because she was in a bitter custody battle with Trick, he was fine. He told me he had my back and that as long as there weren’t any other incidents or accusations, everything would be fine. That’s when I called and ended things with Trick.”

“Aww. That makes me sad and pissed at the same time. Sad because it sounds like you were really into him and pissed because his ex was just being a jealous bitch,” Jenna offered.

Cami got up and shooshed Lindsey over so that she was sitting on one side of her and Jenna on the other. Cami threw her arm around her shoulders and Jenna took one of her hands in her own.

“I hate that that happened. You and Trick would be so good together.” Cami squeezed her shoulder.

“Yeah. I would have really liked to see if things between Trick and I would have led to anything. Who knows, it might not have lasted more time than it took for him to work me out of his system, but it would have been fun while it lasted. I’m just sad it ended so soon.” Lindsey leaned over, resting her head against Cami’s shoulder.

“All of that sounds like it’s in the past.” Jenna tried to steer the conversation back to what started this whole conversation. “What happened yesterday? How did you end up seeing Trick?”

“We had an early out and it was Wednesday, which means it was Trick’s day to pick up Keegan from school. I waited for thirty minutes before I finally broke down and called him.”

“I’m guessing that’s the first time you guys have talked in a long time?” Cami asked.

“Yes. If it wasn’t for the fact that it had to do with Keegan, we still wouldn’t have been talking.” Lindsey almost melted like butter at the sound of his voice over the phone. Hearing it only reminded her of how much she missed him.

“Is he late often?” Cami asked.
