Skyler finally looks away from the TV. “Who all did you tell?”

“About that night? I didn’t tell a damn soul. Not even you guys at first.”

Josh sits back. “So, it was just you and Andy who knew?”

“Yeah.”

“If you didn’t tell anyone, then Andy did.” Dusty says. “And judging by how mad she got about the whole thing, I don’t think she wanted word getting around.”

Skyler meets my gaze. “I bet she told her best friend.”

Dusty whistles. “Damn. That girl is cold.”

My hand passes over Belle’s soft hair. I hope she never deals with this shit. Living in a small town requires a thimble full of tenacity and a boatload of forgiveness.

16.

Andy

I’m on a date with Ben Pierson.

BenPierson.

Homecoming King.

Upper classman.

And he’s boring the shit out of me.

Truly.

I would rather count ceiling tiles.

I lost count at two hundred and seven.

What I’ve realized is that while Ben Pierson was an amazing basketball player, and passably handsome, he is dumber than a rock.

He doesn’t read.

He’s never been to a play.

And his favorite show is sports.

I assume.

We have absolutely nothing in common past Silver Bend High and that is what we’ve been rehashing for the last hour.

But just being boring is not a sin.

Repeatedly putting his hand on my thigh is.

I push it off, he puts it back.

I move my knee away and he follows me.

This asshole doesn’t know when to quit.

Luckily for me, Idoknow when to quit.
