Page 119 of Bewitching Her Monsters
Maxum and Arran made her scream so loud with ecstasy that I still hear it ringing in my ears and in my balls.
Maybe she could be the woman to make me forget what happened during my last death.
Sneaking out the door, I take to the sky and soar over the buildings. Osen’s death spot is only a mile or so away. So if my instincts are nothing, I’ll be back before the guys know I’m missing.
Thankfully, I have enhanced supernatural eyesight, since there aren’t many working streetlights in this industrial area anymore, and the moon hasn’t risen. The supernaturals who inhabit the supposedly abandoned area like to move in the dark since they don’t easily pass as humans, even with glamour. They are far too big or some other inhuman shape. Most have lost the magical power to maintain a glamour at all, even with charms or spells.
As I approach, I see my Rambler parked on the street close to where Osen was killed.
The witch.
Why would she steal our car when no one was home? Why come here? Was I right all along?
I land on the building to observe her as she stands in the dark alley.
She seems strained, her body twitching and bowed as if fighting an invisible force.
Osen?
Has he found some evidence in her mind and come here to confront her?
“This was you!” she shouts, sounding very much like Osen.
Then a second later, Osen screams, “Fuck!”
A man appears at the end of the alley. “Ah, there you are.” I’m not sure if he means Jade or if he’s speaking to Osen.
The man looks like Rob. I sense he is indeed a warlock.
I want to fly down there and protect Osen, but I also want to see how Jade-Osen reacts to Rob.
“He’s still inside you, hm?” Rob throws his hands out.
I expect to see the glow of a warlock’s spell, but a shadowy tendril shoots out instead. It looks and feels like Osen’s magic.
Osen gasps, realizing the same thing.
Jade’s arms fly up in a stop motion, but whatever magic Osen has left is too weak to prevent Rob’s assault.
The shadowtendril wraps around her middle and yanks her forward until she’s only a few feet from the warlock.
“Don’t worry, we’ll take care of it,” he tells Jade and plunges a shadow into her forehead.
Fuck. Rob’s attacking Osen.
I dive off the building’s edge to rip Jade away from Rob just as a black sedan pulls up.
I grab the witch around the waist to break her free from his shadows. Then I swing my Katana with my free arm, slicing Rob’s chest.
He releases Jade.
His shadow hits me so hard that I fly back into the brick wall.
Somehow, I manage to hold on to the witch.
However, her head cracks against the brick.
I clutch her unconscious body to my chest. I thought I was only saving Osen, but I find I don’t want to lose Jade either.
