Fortunately, Maxum and Arran had grabbed a few things from my house earlier today, including my sneakers and some clothes. So at least I won’t only be dressed in a guy’s flannel shirt and socks for my adventure with Osen.
They also left the Rambler here, so I snatch up the keys from the entry table and steal their car.Borrowtheir car.
I memorized the address and location of Osen’s death spot when he gave it to me in the shadowscape. I feel him vaguely in the back of my mind, thrumming with energy.
It’s a weird sensation to feel him like this when I’m awake. But he told me that me having sex with the guys has empowered him. He’s so much stronger now.
At least he agreed to let me be in control of my own body for this trip. Although he plans to take control briefly when we arrive at our location.
I don’t like the idea of that.
But what’s a medium supposed to do when there’s a murder to solve?
The roads are empty as we get closer to our destination, which isn’t completely unusual for this part of town. It’s mostly abandoned warehouses. There’s not much reason for the city’s residents to be here.
Now that I know there’s an entire world I never knew existed, I imagine these buildings aren’t as abandoned as I had previously assumed.
I feel Osen agrees with my thoughts.
Great. That means he probably has access to all my wandering thoughts.
Again, I get a sense of agreement. Ugh.
When I turn down a dark street, Osen insists I pull over and park. I do. With nervousness pumping adrenaline through my veins, I step out of the car.
I almost stumble because Osen takes that moment to shove my soul aside and take over without warning.
What the fuckity fuck?
However, this time, I’m still conscious of what’s happening, but I have no ability to move or speak through my own body. I’m not sure if that’s worse. I hate the feeling of being out of control. I’m just his puppet now.
“Remain calm, or I’ll put you to sleep,”Osen threatens in my mind.
“Some warning would have been nice, asshole.”
“Keep quiet. I need to stay alert for danger,”he reprimands.
We step forward slowly. He casts our eyes up at the rooftops and down the road. This is the strangest experience I’ve ever had. And that’s saying something since I just been double-teamed by a werewolf and demon.
Oh, yeah, and I died. There’s that.
“Shush,”Osen snarls in my mind.
“So I’m not even allowed to think?”
He doesn’t answer, and I’m immediately distracted when he pushes his psychic awareness outward. Or maybe it’s my power?
“Yours,”he answers.“You need to learn how to use your powers.”
I won’t argue about that. This is cool. I can sense the emptiness of the street and the strange echo of magic ahead of me. I realize I’ve felt magic and power before, but I’ve always brushed it off as my imagination.
As a child, I perceived so much, and it was all lost because of my controlling mother, who repeatedly told me I sensed nothing.
But she was wrong, and now, I’m weak. I wish my abuela was still alive to teach me. Although she was a bit… intense, too.
“You could try calling on her spirit,”Osen suggests.“But not now.”
