“A full day.” His brows pull down in concern. “Are you hungry?”

“I think so.” Then I panic. “Are my fur babies okay?”

“They’re fine.” He grins like he knows something I don’t. “Better than fine.”

“Can I see them?”

Arran helps me stand and get dressed in his sweatshirt and shorts. I’m glad for the assistance since I’m still wobbly on my feet.

He holds me to his side as we walk down the hallway.

He pushes a door open to reveal another bedroom and flips on the light so I can see.

Calder curses and covers his eyes.

He’s been caught. All my animals are snuggled up with him on his bed. It has to be the most adorable scene I’ve ever seen.

I squeal with joy and take a couple of steps to pet my guinea pig.

“Thank you, Calder.” I smile as he cracks his eyes open, looking chagrined. “You found their food and stuff okay? I’m sorry I didn’t think to give you instructions about their care.”

“I told him what to do,” Trouble, my guinea pig, says proudly.

“What the actual fuck?” I fall back into Arran. “Am I dreaming? Did you hear that too? Did you break my brain through my vagina?”

Arran chuckles.

“You heard me? Well, finally!” Trouble shakes his head like I’m dense.

My shifter holds me as I sway with shock. He consoles me. “Calder and I can hear them since we are shifters with the gift to communicate with magical creatures.”

“Magical creatures?”

“Well, obviously, notallanimals can talk,” Trouble sasses.

I blink at him. “Obviously?”

Now, even Calder has a smirk. But I think it’s because I’m the butt of the joke. “He’s been wondering if you were broken,” Calder tells me.

“I think I am now,” I admit. “You’ve always been able to talk?”

“You weren’t listening. I think your witch hole was blocked.”

“My…what?”

Calder grumbles, “Well, Maxum and Arran have fully inspected her witch holes now.”

Arran smirks. “You’re just jealous.”

Calder’s eyes flare with some sort of emotion, triggering his magic.

I believe he might be jealous, but not about me. Maybe he wants the guys.

“I know you don’t like me, so it probably won’t mean much to you, but I appreciate you taking care of my friends,” I say to Calder as I give my fur babies each a touch.

He grimaces and says nothing. I’ll take that as a win. Maybe he will realize I’m not his enemy.

“But seriously, why can I hear them now?” I ask.
