“Tellme you fucking have this asshole?” I snarl into my cell.

Amanda's passed out on the sofa, after she threw up and sobbed in my arms, she fell asleep.

“We're looking,” Peter assures me. “He's a wanted man, Jake, I assure you that we'll find him. Everyone on the force is looking for him.”

“The same force that has blackballed Amanda due to their incompetence?” I question, doubting whether or not I trust any of those fuckers to help look for one of their own.

“Trust me, brother, they know what he's done, what he's been getting away with. We've uncovered a whole fucking lot since we got the footage of him killing Mrs. Dorrit.”

“Who?” I ask, wondering who he's talking about.

“Amanda's neighbor, the woman he killed. Her name was Mrs. Dorrit. Has Amanda not told you about her?”

“No,” I say cautiously.

“They'd have lunch at least once a month. Mrs. Dorrit was a widow and Amanda would visit with her sometimes.”

I close my eyes, my chest burning. Of course she would. She cares about everyone and would do anything she could to help anyone. “What about Dawkins? What's he done?”

There's a long pause before I hear movement, almost as though Peter's moving somewhere else. “Sorry,” he says after a few minutes. “I needed to get someplace quiet. Fuck, Jake, it's been a complete clusterfuck here. From what we've uncovered, he's been threatening and beating women since he was a beat cop. He's been abusing his power as a police officer and now detective for years.”

I grit my teeth. “How the hell has this been allowed to happen?”

“There's only been two complaints brought forward about him. Both by female officers and both officers are no longer part of the police force.”

Christ. What the hell did that asshole do to them? There's not a chance that it's a coincidence.

“Does this bastard know where Amanda and I are holed up?” I question, needing to know if I should be even more prepared than I am.

“He's in the wind, the man is smart, Jake, too damn smart for his own good. He knows police procedure, hence why these murders were practically undetectable, I wouldn't put it past him to know everything there is to know about all of us, including you. The man will have dug deep enough to uncover everything.”

“Which means, he'll know that I own this cabin,” I say evenly. “I'll be on guard. He'll not get close to her,” I vow, I'll kill him before he even tries.

“I'll leave as soon as I can, I've already spoken to the chief and he knows that I'll be heading up to you. If he comes, we'll be ready for him.”

Oh, I have no doubt that we will be. “Let me know when you're on the way,” I tell him.

“Will do. Take care, Jake, and I'll see you soon.”

The call ends and I turn, not at all surprised to see Amanda awake and watching me. “He knows we're here, doesn't he?”

I swallow hard, hating the tremble in her voice. “It’s going to be okay,” I assure her as I walk toward her. “He’s not going to get you.” I’ll die before he can get his hands on her.

I pull her to her feet and press her close to me, I love having her in my arms.

Amy responds eagerly, her hands wrapping around my neck. The urgency between us is palpable. My hands roam over her, loving every curve and dip, I'm finally getting to play, to explore her body. It's been years since we've had this chance, I'm not letting it slip away.

I break the kiss, resting my forehead against hers as we both try to catch our breath. “I’m not letting him get you,” I whisper hoarsely. “I love you.”

Amanda looks up at me with eyes that are filled with a mix of desire and uncertainty. “I love you too,” she says, her voice barely above a whisper. She’s still scared, and I get it, I hurt her, but we’re moving forward. Together.

I cup her face in my hands, and kiss her once again, this time it’s loving and filled with desire. I need her, my cock is thick against her stomach. I rock against her, loving that little moan she releases in the back of her throat.

“I need you,” she breathes.

I take her hand and lead her to the bedroom, my heart pounding with anticipation. I can't deny that I thought this wouldn’t happen again after I told her the truth about why I left. I truly believed that I had lost her for good. Thankfully, Amy is a forgiving person.

I strip her clothes., she’s in yoga pants and a tee, making it easy to strip her down. With hurried hands, she pulls at my tee and works on my pants.
