“I love you, T.”

“I love you too.”

He straightened his shoulders. “Well, I suppose you’ll have to put your acting experience to good use and feign friendship.”

She wrinkled her nose. “I was on a reality TV show.”

“You and I both know there’s nothing real about reality TV.”

“That’s true,” she conceded.

Greer looked thoughtful. “You know, Ethan coming here might not be a bad thing.”

“What do you mean?”

“At least we know where he is.”

“Yeah, right here in our haven,” she muttered. “Threatening to rip apart my entrails.”

“The good news is that Tray, Helen, and Kevin are safe.”

“You’re right,” she answered, feeling a heady sense of relief.

A new light lit Greer’s eyes. “Hey, what you said is spot-on.”

“It is?” Treasure was clueless.

“Ethan is in our haven, meaning we have the home-court advantage.”

“I suppose.” She chewed the inside of her cheek. She had no idea where this was going.

“Do you remember Ian Russell?”

“The sheriff?”

He nodded.

“Yeah. We went to high school together. I didn’t know him well, but he seems like a good guy.”

“He is. I’ll call Ian and tell him what’s going on. See if he can offer some advice or assistance.”

“I guess it couldn’t hurt.” She stood, picked up her beach towel, and moved off to the side to shake out the sand. Greer did the same. While Treasure packed up their things, Greer made the call. He left a voice message, asking Ian to call him back as soon as possible.

Several minutes later, they hurried across the sand to get to the golf cart.

Apprehension churned in Treasure’s gut. She’d always prided herself on being able to school her emotions, but facing Ethan right now seemed like an impossible task. Her emotions were vacillating between being scared to the bone and wanting to wring his spindly neck.

As they turned onto the road, Greer glanced over at Treasure. “You’ve got this,” he assured her, reaching for her hand.

She nodded, hoping he was right.
