There wasn’t time for this kind of reunion, but damn, I wanted to hide with him somewhere in this forest and pretend nothing was wrong. Only enjoying each other’s company.

“Better said, who stands against us, little bird.”

My cheeks reddened, and I tilted my head closer, desperate to feel his lips on mine. But before they touched, Isaac whispered, “You still want me? With everything you now know?”

His words made me flinch briefly, realizing he had put the pieces together too. Did it make me think differently about him? Hell no. He was a victim in this. He was cursed becauseIcouldn’t accept the mate bond.

“I always choose you,” I whispered back, “you are the one I love, the one that makes me feel loved and stronger. I don’t want to be in this place without you.”

“I will never hurt you,” he promised as he tucked some stay hairs behind my ear.

“And you never did.” It pained me he thought he might have. I could see it in his eyes. There was this lingering doubt, and I was the one that had to take that away from him. Show him that I wasn’t only his, but he was mine.

“I should have protected you from William.” I gulped, taking in his words. There might be some things he knew about him, but I was sure he didn’t know everything.

“I believe he killed your Luna, or he let Laila do it.” I hated to say it, but I had to. I couldn’t shove this away, hide this from him. It would never let any more secrets come between us.

“And he killed you, the first you.” Tears brimmed in his eyes, too many to blink away.

“Fuck,” Finlay broke the moment, finally putting everything together and realizing William was the monster for this Realm.

“We have to stop him.” He stepped closer, and Isaac took a deep breath. Calming his emotions to focus back on what needed to be done.

“True, but we have something else first,” Isaac said, squeezing my hip.

“What? Do you have a plan?” I asked, hoping he knew a way out of this all.

“Not exactly, but I think it would help if you had your wolf back.”

“You are marking me?” My body shivered against him, knowing what it would mean. I would get my wolf back and be able to fight against William as his equal, not as a weak human.

“Only if you want me to, because once your skin has my mark. There is no escaping me.”

Every word he spoke heightened that flame inside me, my entire skin buzzing with anticipation as I said. “Good.”

His gaze darkened, and the icy blue that flowed through it turned into a storm. Possessiveness vibrated from him, and it made me melt in his arms.

Finally, it was happening. I might have believed I didn’t need his mark before all this shit went down, but now I craved it.

I wanted him to imprint on my soul and make our love unbreakable.

“Finlay, go on a run, and after a few hours, warn them that I have come to take back what is mine,” Isaac ordered without peeling his eyes from mine.

“Joanne?” Finlay asked, needing the reinsurance.

“Do it, and bring back some clothes,” I said, listening to him retreating into the forest.

Not wasting another heartbeat, Isaac’s hand grabbed the back of my thighs and hauled me up as he moved to one of the trees.

“Remember this,” he teased, his claws skimming over the fabric of my jeans.

I hummed. “Remind me again what happened next.”

“Careful,” he warned, and a cold breeze brushed over my skin as he tore my jeans apart.

Arching my back, pressing my covered breasts against him, I savored the feel of his claws scratching my skin, eager for everything he had to offer.

Something had changed between us, even with what was about to happen, with death looming over our heads; we didn’t care. As long as we had this moment together, all would be alright.
