“The pairing wasn’t great, and I’m sorry. But there was no other choice.”
“You destroyed me.”
“It was the only way to keep you safe. I had to ensure you couldn’t carry a child. To stop this never-ending loop.”
She purposefully put me through all the pain, not even caring about it. The answers she was giving weren’t for me, but to help her son. She didn’t care about me or my family.
She didn’t let me respond and continued. “You two have a chance to destroy this border between these two worlds. You can bring everyone together again.”
“We never asked for this. We only wanted to be together.”
“And you will if you stay without a child.” She said without any emotion, as if it was the easiest thing in the world.
“But I can. Once I have my wolf back.”
“Yes, and that’s why I put a lock on your soul.” Because once I was marked, my wolf could come back and heal my wounds.
“So, you aren’t giving me the chance to get marked?” Was she truly taking my choice away for her own agenda? How would that make her any different from Helia?
“It’s better if I don’t. But it’s your choice. I have taken enough from you. Forced too much on you to take this choice away.”
I breathed in relief, taking her words in. It was true, my entire life I didn’t have a say in it. I had to follow this path. There was no escaping your destiny. But now, after everything she did, she has given me back my control.
This was what my father wanted me to remember. He might have told me already, talked to me, explained what the best course of action was.
I could live without a kid, but I couldn’t deny this itch inside me. Thiswantfor the one I lost. My wolf
A part of myself I had lost because of Liam. A part I could get back. I would be stronger; I could truly protect myself.
“You kept my wolf dormant?” That was why Derek brought Liam, hoping the mate bond would bring out my wolf.
“I had to, otherwise she would heal your wounds Liam inflicted.”
“But he killed her.”
“That wasn’t part of the plan, I didn’t know he was going to do that. I can’t control free will.”But she sure tries.
It felt like too much of a coincidence. Derek brought us together, but how did he find Liam?
“He. Knows. Everything.”
Fuck.
My heart shattered, my soul aching. This betrayal pained me more than Liam’s, and I knew it would destroy Isaac.
He only trusted William because of me. He was always paranoid and doubting everything they did, and he pushed it on Laila. But now I believed she was a victim too; it was William who pulled on all the strings. Who orchestrated all this?
He must be the one that introduced Derek to Liam, he was the one who killed Isaac’s mate, he was the one that brought the Board that resulted in Isaac’s death. And he must be the one that made another attempt at Isaac’s life.
He was the true monster, but I wondered if he was always like this, or only inthislife?
“It’s your decision, Joanne. But I can’t protect you once his bite becomes your undoing,” she said.
