“No, we have to stay here. We can go camping.”

They stared at me with a confused expression on their faces and the first one to give in was Laila. Her lips slightly curved into a smile, and she took William’s hand.

“It would be nice to sleep under the moon.”

He grumbled something in return and slowly shook his head. Relief washed through me and my eyes found Isaac, watching me.

“You want to replay our last time in the woods,” he teased, and William slammed on the brakes.

“Don’t do that when we are with you two. I already had to hear too much last night, when we were supposed to head out.” His grumpiness started to reach new highs, and I chuckled. I knew he was like this when he was stressed. He was afraid something was going to happen to us, and I couldn’t blame him.

Maybe we should have split up, to ensure Laila would remain safe and their unborn child.

“William,” Isaac warned. A tension moved through his body, letting us know that his anger was rising. His impatience, his demand for respect. He might not have a pack anymore, but he still has the temper of an Alpha.

“Fine,” William sighed in defeat. The only one that remained quiet like always was Conner. I knew he struggled to give his opinion, feeling trapped between two brooding Alpha’s who can’t even seem to agree on where we should eat.

Giving Isaac a slight nudge, I opened the car door, taking the opportunity to get out of the confines of that car. We might have started with two, but eventually stuffed ourselves into just one. Believing it would be better.

I hadn’t found the plus side of it yet. We just didn’t fit in it. These men are too big. However, I shouldn’t complain, at least we we were together and alive.

“Isaac and I are going to explore the town,” I told William, who only narrowed his gaze in return.

“Insatiable bastards,” he grumbled, just loud enough to hear.

Isaac’s anger flowed through me, and I shook my head with a smile on my face. “We are perfectly capable of keeping our hands to ourselves.”

“Speak for yourself, little bird,” Isaac growled and tugged me away from the car.

It took a mere second before he had lifted me up and claimed my lips. A warmth spread inside me, and I moaned when he squeezed my ass.

This wasn’t the plan.

Definitely not, but it felt so, so good.

Reigning back my lust and need for him, I peeled my lips from his.

“There is something I have to tell you.”

His eyes changed, the playful glint faded, and a glimpse of fear showed itself. It was brief but it was there.

This was it.

I saw that guy again.

Fuck. Why couldn’t I speak it out loud?

“Joanne?” He gently placed me back on my feet and my words wouldn’t form.

I wanted to tell him but couldn’t. How?

I wasn’t alone in the forest when you found me.

My hands balled into fists and my lips remained sealed. What was wrong with me?

“I have been here before.” My words spilled out, sadly they weren’t the ones I wanted to speak. Fuck.

“What do you mean?”
