Wehadbeenonthe run for weeks, driving north to ensure no one would find us.
But now we had to stop running. We had no choice when I felt my heat stir beneath my skin, ready to break free.
Only this time, I was excited about it. Because now it was with Isaac by my side.
Anticipation rose, sparks ignited on my bare skin when he pulled me closer, hating how my scent peaked and we were still in the car with the others.
William was driving like crazy, trying not to get distracted by my heat, while Isaac couldn’t stop his chest from rumbling. Logan growled possessively beneath the surface.
Yes, it kept the other wolves at bay, but it also made this fire inside me rise higher and higher.
“I think we need to stop.” William’s words were strained, his hands turning white from the firm grip on the steering wheel.
“Are we almost there?” I asked and immediately cursed myself for opening my mouth. Because the way my voice sounded, all needy, really didn’t help.
Conner and William tried their best, but when the car started to slow down, I knew William was losing the fight with his wolf.
He had been by my side before when I went into heat, and even though it felt the same as all the other times, there was something different. Maybe it was because of Isaac, but even I could smell my scent intensifying, and I had never experienced that before.
“Stop the car!” Isaac ordered, and William hit the brakes with such force it made me fall forward.
I knew Isaac could move fast but in the next second, we were out of the car, and he was running away from the others.
An orange hue filled the sky, the sun ready to set and for the moon to take its place. The sight slowly faded when trees surrounded us, dimming the last light.
Branches brushed past us, faster than ever before, cutting my bare arms, but with Isaac holding me, I didn’t feel the pain.
He had told me the risk of being in heat and unclaimed and him sprinting through the forest with me wasn’t the best option, but now it was the only one.
My lips curled, and I knew I shouldn’t be smiling. However, this whole situation was just—unbelievable.
“Where are we going?” My core clenched and pain surged. Fuck, it was much closer than I thought.
“This wasn’t how I wanted it.” He wanted this moment to be special, seeing the marking as the same as we humans see marriage. Sealing this bond between us, claiming each other till the end.
His stride faltered, and he gently put me down.
“I know, but it doesn’t matter to me. Our first time was in a forest, so I think it fits us,” I said.
He peered down, a smile forming on his lips as he tucked stray hair behind my ear. “You deserve more.”
My heart swelled at the sound of his words. “I have everything.”
Leaning closer, I captured his lips in mine, needing to stop fighting this heat and give in. Letting him take care of me, just like he has done from the start.
My beautiful Alpha, and now my mate.
His hands trailed down, gripping my thighs, and I moaned, feeling his hard bulge pressing against me. I stepped back, and he followed, never daring to let any space come between us.
He grinned and softly nipped my bottom lip. “Where do you think you are going, little bird?”
My words got stuck in the back of my throat when his hand cupped my mound, only my clothes acting as a barrier between us.
