And I couldn’t wait to be mother to our beautiful babies…one day. We were in absolutely no hurry since we both wanted to make sure we were ready. We sure were having a lot of fun practicing making them though.

Whenever that baby fever hit, I spent all my love and attention to Lilly, Emily’s daughter, who I was now Godmother to. Tyler loved when we would pick her up to stay with us for the night, insisting that it would give us good practice, all while not making us too excited for the all-nighters that come with a baby.

I made my way around the room mingling and chatting with different people, silently reliving the past year in my head and smiling with each memory. I hoped and prayed for so long that I would get my happy ending, and although I didn’t know what the future would hold, I knew I would relish every single moment along the way because I was no longer broken. My past merely aided in shaping who I was; it no longer dictated it. No more did I let that nightmare of a human being hold me down. I lived my life on my terms.

In the middle of my mental musings, an older gentleman with snow white hair came over to shake my hand. “I just had to come tell you that what you’re doing here is a wonderful thing!”

I gave him a warm smile, “Thank you. It’s a cause I hold very near and dear to my heart. I appreciate you being here.”

“It’s absolutely my pleasure, Mrs. Wendell.”

With a genuine grin and my newfound lease on life, I said, “Please…call me Samantha.”
