“I did a thing,” Bas said.

Drew and Ezra both turned their heads toward him.

“Sounds ominous,” Ezra joked.

“Well, that depends…”

“On?” Drew asked.

“What happens next.”

With those words, Bas pulled out a small box and opened it, revealing three gold bands.

“I wanted us to have these. I know that you’ve always wanted to get married,” he told Drew. “And technically we can’t do that, but it’s really not about the paper anyway. It’s more like a promise we make each other. I don’t need a big party or anything like that. I mean, if you both want a party, we can do it, but…” He swallowed. “Anyway. I thought we could do the rings. It seemed like something that is… us. I—”

Bas couldn’t finish whatever he was about to say because Drew and Ezra wrapped him in a hug.

“I fucking love you so much,” Drew said fiercely, and Ezra nodded. Drew’s voice was raw with emotion, but he couldn’t help it. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on that ring and everything it represented. Bas. Ezra. Promise. Commitment. Forever.

“I don’t want a big party or an official paper,” Ezra said. “This here is perfect.”

Bas took one of the rings out of the box with slightly shaky fingers. He slid the band onto Drew’s finger. Drew slid the second ring on Ezra’s finger, and then he watched Ezra do the same to Bas.

“Full circle,” Bas said and smiled, emotions swimming in his gaze.

Drew couldn’t keep his eyes off his finger and the visual reminder of Ezra and Bas that now decorated his hand.

There, in the fading light of the day, they promised each other forever.

And Drew had no doubt that was exactly where they were headed.
