I reply by nodding my head, still feeling my swollen lips.
“Well, snap out of it, Luc is waiting to talk to you so pull yourself together. Here, I have some makeup let’s freshen you up, hoe.” Izzy is beaming.
Ten minutes later we’re in the VIP area talking to Luc and Mia about my future with Spin It Inc. I’m so glad I listened to a few demos and went over the application. Luc is a great businessman and definitely knows his shit.
I can tell he did some research on me as well because he asked a bunch of questions about the band and their touring details.
In the back of my mind, I wonder if he’s also seen the file the club has on me. He seems to know a lot about me. Izzy and Eva are here with me, but they let me do all the talking. The more I speak with Luc, the more comfortable I am with him and begin to really explain what I used to do for the band. Well, before Bella was born. We’ve kept it all business so far, and I’m beaming with joy from the sound of this job I’ll really like it.
I watch the boys sitting to the side having a conversation while we chat with Luc. Quick never takes his eyes off of me, and when our eyes lock, I give him a brief smile.
“Ruby, I have to ask since I don’t know all the details, but what’re your plans? Izzy said divorce, yeah? Maybe relocate?” Luc inquires.
“I’m for sure getting a divorce. Depending on how difficult he will make it and finances, that will determine if I can move,” I reply hesitantly.
Izzy wants to say something, but I give her a look telling her not to get involved. I know she wants to say she will pay for us to move here but it’s more than that.
“I know it’s none of our business, but once you become an employee, we take care of our people. We can help if you need it. I have no problem with you workin’ from LA, but that would include a lot of travel for you. If you're as good as I think you are, I’ll want you to travel with some performers. Will that be a problem?”
I shake my head. “No, I have support back home, and that is something I would need to figure out before I move here.”
Eva says enthusiastically, “Well, I can help with all that. One, we have a daycare on site at the building.”
Mia’s next to pipe in with, “I’m sure I’ll be able to help out too. I love kids.”
“Again, I know you have a lot to think about and decisions that need to be made, but just know you will have all the support you need once you move here. Next Monday give Mia a call and let us know what you decide, and we can start there and see how that goes,” Luc explains.
“Thank you. Thank you so much. I really want this job. It seems perfect for me. I just need to figure things out regarding Bella before I jump in,” I reply.
Luc laughs, showing his beautiful smile. “I think you will be perfect for the job as well.”
Izzy and Eva both squeal while Mia gives me a hug. I feel so empowered. My gut tells me this company is my future. I smile looking around at all the people in the VIP area. I can see myself here. When my eyes land on Quick again my heart skips. The look on his face is nothing but happiness. He is genuinely excited for me, and he has done nothing today but give me encouraging words.
As I make my way back over to him I tell myself, I’ve got tonight. That’s all I’ve got - one more night.
