Six months later…

April’s door flew open before I rang the bell. The sight of her gorgeous beaming face made me smile. “Damn, Flower Child, so eager to see little old me?”

“Don’t sound so smug.” She hurled herself at me, and I had to spread my feet to keep us upright. Laughing, I swung her around in circles on the porch.

“Welcome home.”

I smiled into her hair. “Feels good to be back…for good.” Setting her on her feet, I took her in. She wore a floral print bohemian dress that made me smile harder. “I hope you’re not wearing anything under that dress. We have six months’ worth of no sex to make up for.”

She whacked me on the chest, playfully. “You sex fiend.”

“When it comes to you.”

She laughed and hugged me again. “Oh, Julian. I missed you so much.”

“Good because I’m staying here for a while.”

April pulled back to look at me. “You are?”

“Hey, you shacked up with me in Montreal. It’s only fair I shack up with you here until I get my own place.”

“I can work with that.” Her eyes twinkled with happiness, and I was relieved. I’d just shown up with my suitcases in my car without asking her first.

Wrapping an arm around her waist, I pulled her back to me. “I’m officially retired. You have an unemployed, homeless boyfriend.”

She rolled her eyes. “And it must be so hard for you with all your millions.”

Chuckling, I lowered my head to kiss her again. I didn’t know what I was going to do in this next chapter of my life, but that nagging feeling for something more was gone. I lifted my head to gaze down at April’s beaming face. She gazed up at me with blatant adoration and it settled my spirit. I understood then that she was the more that I wanted in my life.

The End.
