“I think we should get back. If they’re planning to go after Seminole, they could bump up their attack date now that we’ve taken down one of their bunkers," I murmur leadingly, praying he takes the bait.
Please work.
“Damn,” he gripes when it goes to voicemail. “No. We’ll stay and work the scene here. We need to get back and investigate now that the bodies have been handled. Some of my men can stay here to ensure the ashing.”
Fuck.
It has only been fifty minutes. My mind instantly starts racing again, and genius strikes in the form of an awakening human. The scorpion-tattooed man groans as he stirs, and I smirk as I use my gift to loosen his cuffs from around his feet and hands.
He feels the break, and he sneakily creeps to his feet while eluding the eyes and ears of the others. He jumps in a car, and slams on the accelerator to blaze down the road.
“After him!” General Marks yells.
Everyone starts jumping in their cars, including me. I quickly crank it up, knowing I can outrun these fools.
I slam it in gear, and I begin following the trail etched in the soft ground. He’s a fast driving son of a bitch human though. I haven’t caught a peek of him yet, and I know I’m following the right trail.
For miles we follow the impressions left behind, and I finally see the rear end of the United car he high-jacked for this high speed chase. I can smell a mist ahead, and judging by the roaring and crashing sounds in the distance, there’s a waterfall ahead.
I don’t care if this human survives or dies. I need him out of the grasp of the United. I summon up all my strength and cross my fingers as I try to use my gift enough to force a flat tire.
I squeal in delight when it works, and the car ferociously flips through the air several times before landing, crashing, and rolling over the cliff. I have to slam on my brakes to avoid the same fate.
I leap out of my car and rush to the edge. Then I tune out everything else so that my vision excels, and I smile when I see him pinned and drowning after having survived the hellacious fall.
I shut my eyes and give my hearing the chance to find dominance as I listen to his heartbeat slow down, weaken, and then finally stop. The sound of braking cars scrapes my over sensitized ears, and I cringe while covering them and dropping to the ground from the ringing ache.
“What the hell happened?” the general barks.
“He didn’t see the cliff coming up,” I lie, and then I slowly stand to my feet as he peers over the edge.
“Drag him out. Maybe we can revive him,” he orders to a full blood.
He runs to the edge and dives the two hundred feet down, barely making a splash.
Humans die too easily. He can’t be revived.
Now I’ve stalled for long enough, and I’ve eliminated the threat. I just hope my hybrid stalker finds all the evidence they have before we return.

Secrets Versus Lies
The humid air forces moisture to build on my golden skin as I huff out my exhaustion inside my tent. We’re far away from the secret attack. With my mission having been a success, now we’re following down the lead the United prisoners were originally chasing before their capture.
We’ll have to leave in less than twenty minutes, and I’ve barely had an hour’s worth of sleep, thanks to this fucking humidity mugging up my senses and my comfort.
I check my secret phone for the hundredth time, but there’s not a text or a call from my masked mystery man. We’re still too deep in Unaligned territory for me to turn on my normal phone. I wish I could fucking talk to Jase right now. I wish I could tell him how I made it through a mission without being a liability.
He keeps seeing me at my worst. He only seems to know the damsel in distress instead of the badass tracker who just found and freed thirty prisoners. Granted, I did have some help on finding their whereabouts, but I still found the hideaway no one else would have without spying on them.
I pull my shirt up while rolling over to my stomach. The sticky sweat wraps my body in its relentless clutches, and I groan for my heated discomfort. Then I gasp as I feel chilled hands sliding against my dampened skin as the scent of sex and candy invades me. I never heard anyone get inside my tent.
I flip over to see the pale eyes staring into mine, and suddenly his lips are pressed against mine as he falls between my parted legs.
“Hey,” he murmurs against my lips, his smile forming.
