“Why would I be? You are doing your job.”
With that brief exchange, disagreements were settled, and they had moved into the bedroom like new lovers seeing each other for the first time. After two hours of intense lovemaking, they crashed on the bed breathing heavy and wondering why they hadn’t found each other before.
“It is never too late,” said the Senator.
“For what? A happily ever after?”
“If you call it that…”
“Forget about it, Brandon. Trust me, you don’t want me to get bored of you. Let’s not spoil the sweetness of these moments.”
“Sounds like a good idea to me.”
“Getting back to the more important issue at hand, how clean is your house? I mean in terms of the leaks and such.”
“Why do you ask?”
“What I have seen couldn’t be coming from outsiders. There is too much inside baseball stuff no one would know. If your friends are getting exposed like that, who is to say you won’t be facing the same crisis one of these days?”
“My team is solid and loyal. They have been with me since the very beginning.”
“Loyalties can change on a dime, Brandon. Don’t bank on it. Check to make sure there is nothing to worry about. The last thing I want is to become the news myself.”
“You have nothing to worry about, dear. I have better news for you.”
“What?”
“My daughter is getting married. To Jack Reiner, the golfer.”
“Is that right?!”
“She called me earlier today. I have never seen her happier.”
“That will be some wedding.”
“I would invite you…”
“Stop it. No, you are not. You have a wife to parade around for the cameras.”
“You can cover it. There is a human interest story in it. It will be the grandest wedding you have ever seen.”
“Now that is an idea. I like how creative and resourceful you are.”
“I am a natural problem solver,” the Senator answered starting off another round of passionate escape.
